View Full Version : Protector Fish?

I have a question for everyone out there. Are there protectors on the reef? I have a yellow tang in my 55g tank. He is the biggest fish in there at a length of 4". I recently put a neon dottyback and a purple basslet(its gone, could be hiding) and my little 3 stripe damsel doesn't like them. I have noticed now that whenever the damsel makes its way towards the dottybacks the yellow tang comes in between them and spreads his fins out. Just recently I saw the yellow tang literally being a shield to my neon dottyback as the damsel stood staring from a distance until finally it turned around and went about its business. It was interesting behavior. I have seen it also protect my little regal tang(1.5" maybe 2") from my powder blue tang when it decides to chase little blue. Once again really neat stuff! I will have to try and get a video of it when it does it. Has anyone else ever observed such behavior in their tanks?

I know Bobby. I plan on going bigger in the next 6 to 12 months(120g). I bought them small for this reason. :)

I can't either hehe. I remember mentioning I wanted to go to a 280g but my budget isn't in that range yet so I'll have to make a half step with the 120g. I don't plan on getting anymore fish because I want to keep the fish load lighter in the bigger tanks. Big fish get more uhs and ahs from guests. ;)
