As a lot of you know, I've been fighting an algae aoutbreak fro some months now. I've taken a number of approaches to getting rid of it, and it's working, albeit slowly. I decided to help things along a bit by picking up a sea hare. I know they tend to have fairly short lives, and can starve if there is not enough algae, which is why I was glad to hear my LFS will gladly take him back for store credit when he's done. It's more of a sea hare rental I guess :)

I guess we'll see how it goes...

I got mine on a "rental" back when my tank was pretty new. But, he died before he could eat all the algae. But, on the bright side, it ate enough that it put the HA on the run and I got it totally under control a short time later.

He was going to town when the lights went off, so fingers crossed. He totaly grosses out my daughter too, so that's a bonus :)

Hey pearson, let me know how this works. I have a serious hair algae issue in my tank as well.

Out of curiosity, have you tried emerald crabs?

I have a few. They do a good job on the bubble algae, and pick at the hair algae, but it would take an army to really work it down.

those slugs...... they're mighty gross. i had never really seen one until i was at the beach and i saw a few in the tidepools. like living seaweed, but they did mow down algae.
