Hello everyone!

I have a few Ricordia in my tank and they have been doing great. I have 2 Ricordia Floridas and 1 Ricordia Yuma. They are all sitting next to one another. I know they are from different regions. With the Floridas sting the Yuma or vice versa? How often should they be closing up? I notice they close up when the lights are off, is this normal? Thanks! :)

yup that's normal for them to close up small when the lights go out.

100% normal for them to close after lights out. they probably will not sting each other. i have Yuma, Florida, and Bali all in the same area and they touch with no stinging.

Thanks Gwen and Bobby! I have one more question if you don't mind, Do ricordias need to be fed?

they do not require it, but i am sure that they would not mind it either.

What do you suggest Bobby? I apologize for all the questions. I have a Yuma I paid a pretty penny for and I want to make sure its at its best. Thanks! :)

small fodds like cyclopeeze and mysis shrimp. th emysis might not last before the fish get it, but if it does i am sure the shroom would thank you for it ... if it could. maybe some oyster eggs in the mix too.

Feed them well whenever you have power off like during maintainance or waterchanges.

Thanks Bobby! I started feeding mysis to my tank and the Floridas are looking bigger and beefier. The Yuma ins't looking so hot but its still there so I am happy. Thanks everyone for your help!

Like most soft corals they do need food.
It is important to feed 2-3 times a week for all corals.
Most live in areas where food is abundant at certain
time of the day. Some nocturnal and some diurnal.
Some; like sun polyps only feed on Zooplankton.
But you can trick them by feeding this during the day.
Ricordia Florida are found in the straits around the Keys.
They are fed daily by the moving tides! 4 times!
Medium lighting and a slightly higher Dkh,10-12, will help them grow.
Yuma's seem to take longer to adjust but will react the same way.
Cyclops or 2lF's zooplan works well, Oyster or Artemia if live is good too.
Phycopure is live algae and helps with color enhancement due to the zoxanthelli
in the mix.

I'm not sure if they sting each other or not but i have several different riccordias and it is normal fore them to close at night. i do no special feeding for them (like target feeding) but i feed my tank cyclopese, phyto, and mysis i know they benefit from it as i see them capture food and eat it. they have thrived and even put off a few babies. hope this helps

I don't think they will sting eachother but they will fight for space
They should be to simular for them to sting

Have you tried target feeding the Yuma with the pumps turned off? A smaller food might work better for Ricordea as well, perhaps chop up the mysis a bit first or try one of the other foods suggested. I know they'll take frozen Cyclop-Eeze quite readily. They can grow quite quickly if fed every day.

Considering how much people are paying for them lately, I'd pick up a few razor blades and some frag plugs if you're going to feed them every day. Most fragging techniques that work for Rhodactis sp. or Discosoma sp. will also work with Ricordea sp. (ie. quartering across the mouth section). Might as well make the tank pay for at least part of itself.

and a 2-lite soda bottle w/bottom cut out makes a great "food corral" when feeding corals, keeps the little fishes away until corals have a chance to eat...

Very true! the only problem is I don't have the room to maneuver the bottle in there. I have been using a 1 liter with the bottom cut out. Thanks for the post!
