Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this fuge/skimmer combo. I like the design and idea, but i am wondering about the quality of the skimmer.

I really want to do a sump/refuge set-up in my tank, but my funds are a little limited. I can eiter do a really nice sump with a quality skimmer, the Euroreef RS80 or this sump/refuge combo.

What would be my best bet.

Her here is the link to the sump/refuge skimmer combo.

I think you'll be WAAAAYYYYY better off with a good sump/skimmer combo. The skimmers in those Aquafuges are not real efficient. Is there a reason you coulnd't use part of our simp as a fuge?

I have been running different idea's on how to make my own sump/fuge. I am planning on useing a 29g tank as my sump. its 30"L x 12W x XXX high. I just need to fugure out a way to make a baffel in the center where I can place sand/LR/Macro's etc.

Also, figuring out a way to light it as well.

I will research the DYI area's of the forums to see what others have done. I just don't want to spend $200+ on an acyrilic "sump"

Thanks

A 29 should work just fine. You can make a baffle by having the pieces of glass cut for you at your local hardware store and securing them with silicone. That way, you can customize it as you wish. As far as lighting, there's a cheap, easy way to light macro in a fuge. Home Depot (and other home imporovement places, I'd imagine) sell floodlights with compacr flourescent bulbs sealed inside. Just get one or two of those, and some clamp on lamp holders and you should be set as far as lighting goes.

You could design it like this Cadlight Refugium (http://www.cadlights.com/product_info.php?cPath=30&products_id=107) (only bigger)...
