Hey guys,

This is probably a stupid question but it one worth asking i belive.

Would it be considered a good idea to put a small octopus species (probably a mimic) in my 15 gal newly-cycled tank? I know they require a species tank can get out of almost anything but if im willing to research the heck out of this and give it a good try, would it be worth my time? I think cephalopods are awesome and ive always wanted to try keeping them. If keeping such an animal in a small tank like this is completely out of the question just let me know. I was just curious as to whether the idea was worth pursuing.

Besides how short-lived they are in captivity to begin with, I'd be concerned about that tank size.

Most octopus live 1 year(not sure about the giant octopus species). When stressed they live a lot less. 15g is kinda small in my opinion. You wouldn't be able to put much else in there and you best make sure you keep that tank covered and covered good! When you think its sealed up good seal it up better. Octopus are very intelligent and can get out of the tank even when you think they can't! If you are serious and stick to daily care you could keep it alive for its natural lifespan. The thing is, is it worth the money to spend on an animal you can only keep for a year? Just my 2 cents. :)

good point. K thanks guys ill take all that into consideration. And no, i dont think i want to spend a few hundred bucks on something that only lasts a year or two.
