I went home last night and found water in the basement. The good thing is it wasn't my tank or the hot water heater and was only in the unfinished basment area where the furnace water heater and utility sink are. I also keep a small tank and trash can of water there.

So it was appearently the rubbermaid roughneck 32 gallon trash can. It was half full of saltwater. It wasnt a fast leak. There was maybe a gallon or two that had leaked and mostly soked into a piece of carpet on the floor. And at least my mag7 didnt run dry that was in there to keep it mixed. I pumped the water out into the sink drain. Then used a rag to sop up what I could and wring into a bucket. With the dehumidifier and fan on it, it was pretty good this morning.

Anyway, I am going to be using a tank to hold water. No more trash cans for me. i just have to clean up my 37gal now.

Oh no. I'm glad it wasn't worse. I pumped about 5 gallons of water out on our carpet once when the powerhead I was using to mix water shifted and created a fountain!

*shoves fingers in ears*

"ther's no such thing as floods, there's no such thing as flood's, theres no such thing as floods...."

Carmie, i hear ya on the fountain happenin, thats what happened when i had my LR in a 60 gallon rubbermaid storage container, prolly about 20 gallons pump out into the room :s

That room did have fake ceramic tiles and a drain (utility room, a/c, water heaterm etc..)

But still, it kind of sucked.

Josh, it made a big mess right in the middle of the living room carpet. Oops. I was wishing that we had a drain!

I actually added a drain pan under my 180 stand. its 2 inches deep and can hold about 30 gallons at most. It has undercoating to protect from rust.

If I ever upgrademy tank, I have plans for an in-wall 36x36 tank but where it will be would be easy to plumb a drainpan into my sump for emergencies. I would make it big enough to keep all water, sumps, etc in the drain area. Even then there could still be plumbing or pump issues that spray water everywhere.

it is not a question of IF, but a question of WHEN !!

Floods suck. Buy a carpet cleaner, great for sucking up that saltwater and then cleaning the mess afterwards.
