Hello everybody:

I have a BC29, I replace the original bioballs with a skimmer. My question is how I know that the skimmer is working properly or I have the wrong skimmer?

Thanks in advance.

que onda, Julio?

many skimmers need a "break-in" period before they begin working well and can be adjusted properly. this ranges from a gew hours to a few days. also, if your tank is fairly young, there may not be much to skim.

what model of skimmer do you have? how long has it been runnning?

The skimmer that I have is a LEED brand and use bumbles. I started the aquarium last Thursday night with the Skimmer working. I also have a LR and aragonite.

I am thinking in change this skimmer for Sapphire Nano Skimmer, but I was waiting to see if this one works properly.

Regards and thanks for your time

Julio

the Lee will work, but not as well as the Sapphire Aquatics skimmer. we're running one on our 24 gal Nanocube, and it works well.

i wouldn't try to skim the tank until it gets past its cycle. some of the stuff you're skimming out is food for the bacteria you're trying to grow.

Saxman,

If I under stood you well, I turn off the skimmer until the cycle is complete?

some peeps say it's OK to skim a cycling tank, but it's not a good idea since the ammonia and nitrites are food for the bacteria.

let the tank cycle, then try the skimmer after that.
