Hi. This small red thing appeared in my tank a few days ago, and has started to grow. I think it's cool looking, but is it a bad algae that I should remove, or good macro algae? You may not be able to tell from the photo, but whatever it is, it's standing up on the rock and flowing in the current like a coral would do.
Thanks! Pam

I have some of that stuff. I don't find it too prolific. I would consider it a desireable macro and herbivors love it. I've heard it being called Red Sea Lettuce and it feels slippery right?

Haven't felt it, but good to know it might be beneficial. I was hoping it would. At least now I can start searching for red sea lettuce and see if I can find any pics. Thanks Renee.

I'm gonna pull this out of my hat here.... this could be a wrong spelling.... but search Halymenia (or a variation thereof).

Hi Seahorsedreams. Someone else just told me they thought it is Halymenia too.
I googled images for Halymenia, and it looks like that's it. As long as it's not Cyno, I'm happy. :) Seems this is beneficial macro algae. Thanks!! Pam
