Hello,

I have a BioCube 14 that is almost ready for a fish. I want to get a true percula, but I've heard that they are not as hardy as the Ocellaris.

Since I'm new, I want to go only with easy specimens.

Is the difference in hardiness true? And if so what can be done to increase the chances of keeping a true perc successfully?

Thanks,

From my reading and through looking at other forums, I've found the following info:

1. The true grows slower and is a bit smaller @ adult size. (good for a nano)

2. True may require better water quality (plan to keep water @ reef standards)

3. True's may be a tad more aggressive than falses (anecdotally, people do not discern this. This is less of a problem with tank raised specimens)

4. False's tend to live in the middle third of the tank. True's stay near the surface.

5 And the characteristic that trumps them all....True's look way cooler!:D

Hence, my new tank mate...(a True Percula)

James, I think you got the research right :) Cannot disagreed with any of those points you listed.

From my experience, even with both t.r. percula or ocellaris, ocellaris is still much hardier than t.r. percula. It's more or less a personal preference when it comes to the choice.

I cannot see the price difference....everyone that sees my tank calls them Nemo, anyway!!!
