I've been trying to reduce the bubbles coming from my skimmers overflow, I should of made a bubble trap baffle within my sump but unfortunately this was not the case.
So for a quick solution I took two drinking bottles, cut the ends off both, added a hole at the top in one of them to fit snugly over my skimmers overflow pipe, I also added tiny holes to allow air to escape.
Thankfully it works a treat (in the same way a baffle bubble trap works)
I thought someone may find the solution helpful one day :)

Wow, this is a great idea! What type of bottles did you use, 2-liters or the smaller drinking ones? I have been fighting bubbles in my fuge for a while, i will give this a try.
Thanks for sharing your idea :)

The bottles were slightly different shapes 1ltr and .7 ltr, I guess you could use any size n shape as long as one fits quite snug in the other, you will need to adjust them up and down slightly so the water does not spill out from the air escape holes.
I looked at buying a bubble trap box, but they are quite expensive so I started playing around with the whole buble trap priceable.
I hope you have the same result as I did.

cmay, thanks for posting that, the concept is sound, some of the german units have a design simular, however you just made a version for 1/8th the cost. good thinking 99:agree:

I've been using a 2 l bottle with just enough of the neck cut off to insert the outflows from my skimmer. I also punch a couple of holes punched in the lower 1/3 of the bottle. The water drains through the holes and the top. I though the shape of the bottle or the dwell time in the bottle was the reason it reduces the bubbles so well. Whenever they get yucky I thus toss them into the recycling bin and use a new one. I think I will give your method a go when clean my skimmer & pump in next week.

In this hobby every penny/cent counts.
I like the idea of being able to create my own solution to a problem.
"CarmieJo" Being able to throw them away/recycle is great.
"keyozoxmfc" I will take a photo when I get a chance, however the final product is very crude, I guess I could spend more time on the way it looks but as its in my sump I'm not to bothered.
