View Full Version : Vidcast ideas

ok folks, i am starting to look for ideas for video casts (vidcasts)

what im looking for are simple how-to items i can cover in a video. particularly things that might be hard to understand when you try to read about them.

i have pretty much everything for my tank setup, also i will likely not be able to do any DIY tanks, skimmers, kalk or Ca reactors... i will try and get to those in the futures but not at this point.

here are some current ideas:
Hatching Baby Brine Shrimp
Phytoplankton
Starting culture
splitting cultures
Zooplankton/rotifers
coral fragging
i will be doing these as my corals are ready to be fragged

and i might also to a video walk through of my tank if there is interest.

video takes more time to produce than audio, so i will not be able to knock these out in a da or two, but i think think it would be a worthwhile thing to do..

so please take a moment to chime in with ideas

rob,
i know i would be interested in a visual run thru of basic tank design and maintence.

such as plumbing set up etc...

Basic maintenance would be a good one. Like how DO you drip kalk? etc. Some folks have trouble figuring out how to test water parameters. How to calibrate a refractometer, etc. etc. etc.

Don't think I've seen gwen post today...the late night chat must have really made her oversleep today.......maybe this will draw her out....

What do you want, the behind the scenes tour?

Back to the topic at hand, I think driping Kalk would be an excelent topic for the more advanced reefers and maintenance would be good for the beginners.

These videocasts are a sweet idea! thanks Rob. I think a helpful video would be how to properly acclamate a new fish to the tank and how to properly quarantine them to get them ready for the main display.

Sorry about not being here yesterday- the only time I got online was to pay a few bills- I didn't get up til about 12:30 and I was back in bed around 9pm. Was a short day for me yesterday.

A behind the scenes tour might be possible! And sounds like Kevin can help me!! But I wouldn't be the tour guide though... maybe Kevin will be??

LOL.... although, gwen could host it.....would just have to hold a nemo plushy in front of her face (then "she" wouldn't be on camera)...could see "nemo" giggling.

how about a vid on how to catch a fish....that would be funny, and probably long. LOL

Aquascaping?

I always have a hard time understanding people's plumbing, because you're usually just seeing it from one axis. Seeing a walkthrough through different types of plumbing would be great!

Hey Rob - maybe people could submit videos to you and you could screen them and decide which ones to show?

Would love to see some of these.

Great idea Christi!! Maybe even some tank tours on vid, to see their aquascaping and their overall setup.

Just don't forget about the audio podcasts. You can't watch a video while driving to work like I do with the podcasts now. LOL

Hi Rob,
In addition to these that you've mentioned:

Hatching Baby Brine Shrimp
Culturing Phytoplankton
Zooplankton/rotifers

What about coral spot feeding using different tools like a turkey baster?

Hey Rob, how long are these casts? This idea maybe have to be a short series. I was wondering if anyone has any experience and could docoument breeding Clownfish or Bangi cardinals. Just a thought.

Great Vidcast Kevin!! OMG - how many rays have they got in there!? 1.6 Million gallons?! Geez....
I guess we'll have to re-think whether we can make it this fall or not....gotta talk my hubby into it! :-)

Like the ending as well Kevin! :-)

My guess is that there are about 150 or so rays there, all from the GA coast.

One tid-bit of information that I heard from one of the Volunteers, and ARC member... 1.6 million gallons of water = a football stadium filled 11 stories up!

yup I got my video cam and gonna bring my canon digicam- charged and ready. I do wanna bring the panasonic too, but that's just too much to keep up with! This reminds me that I gotta buy tapes for my camera. I've already started the 'things to do' list ;)
I'm so excited!! YAY!!

kj_yoda
03-14-2006, 09:24 AM

You are gonna be the tour guide, right? at least for the tr film ;)

03-14-2006, 09:56 AM
We'll have to see about that. I could always record the audio after the fact. I think that is what I'll have to do.

Rob
03-14-2006, 10:09 AM
because this is a behind the scenes tour, make sure than anything you record (audio or video) can be shared publicly...
im not sure about the legality of publicizing such information...

that said, some behind the scene audio/video woudl be awesome.. :)

I just asked about this over in the thread about this meeting. Since some ARC members work at the aquarium, maybe I can get an answer soon.
