Whats the best chemical filtration media for SW/reef aquariums? Im sure theres going to be a bit of variation between individuals but on the whole....what sticks out?

Not quite sure if this is what you mean but I swear by chemi pure.

I use Chemi Pure too. I use it more or less passively, just drop it in my sump where there is good flow and let it stay there.

The directions say it is good for 6 months but I replace it about every 3 months.

I also love Chemi-Pure and high grade carbons. I can't think of the name of the product, but there are 9x4 white pads I use regularly (they've been on the market for ages). I can see noticable expansion of my coralimorphs everytime I change old pads and/or filter bags.
Be wary of cheap "charcoal" type carbons, in my experience they are nearly worthless.

Cheap carbons also leech phosphate into your system and should be avoided.

I think you're thinking of poly-pads. I used to use them all the time, but my LFS has stopped carying them for some reason. They pull out all KINDS of junk. I run carbon too, and lots of it. I've been wanting to try some chemi-pure, but I'm kinda put off by some of their claims, like you can go a year without a water change if you use it  .

Yeah, that bugs me too. IDK why they have to make such goofy claims when they have a good product.

Yeah, Carmie's right on. It is a fantastic product and needen't make crazy claims. Research-grade activated carbon is great stuff, too. I buy it on Ebay in bulk and it's pretty reasonable compared to Chemi-Pure, but has to be rinsed and put into stockings or bags -and doesn't always last as long as Chemi-Pure.
Phurst- You can buy Poly-Pads online (and Ebay) for a fraction of the retail price is you buy a dozen. I swear by it, and you can tell when they're spent by color change, which is nice.

Maybe we should start a letter writing campaign!

I looked for their address online but couldn't find it. I will have to go to the LFS and see if the address is on the bottle.
