I just downloaded all 36 Podcasts (35 as #24 seems to be missing) and have listened to a couple already. I have about an hour and a half commute each day so I should be able to go through these pretty quickly on my MP3 player. I look forward to learning a lot more as I still consider myself quite the beginner. I have a lot to learn and I am looking to use every avenue of information to my benefit. I have been reading a lot of printed material as well as a lot online. Now I can continue to learn while I am driving. Thanks a lot for thinking of this wonderful idea.

Peace,
INKMAN

Welcome to the board Inkman!

I've had my reef tank for just over 6 months, and when I found the podcast I was so happy. Reading posts in forums is nice, but I really like Rob's podcast where you can listen to a show....and being able to listen to it during a drive is such a plus!

I'm sure Rob can find and fix #24 for ya once he sees your post.

I used to be a Mac guy (10 years) but switched to PC a couple years ago. I was Mac from being in Graphic Arts.

As for Smileys..................I am not going to start off by making any enemies.

I didn't say you were in trouble, I just said "no comment" ;)
So what were you getting into it about on other boards? You really cheat on TR big time- I only cheat with one other board, but you on the other hand.... naughty-naughty :D

LMAO... I've been on more boards than I have been on the soils of various states! Some of which have already died a cyber death (Like Reef Freaks)

Remember, I work (16 years now) at BBN Technologies, one of the founding groups of "ARPANET" the original internet...before it was turned over to us by Uncle Sam. You can search for my name and well...the word "Basil" for instance, and find usenet posts from me dating back to the 80's.

I don't cheat :) I just have a bunch of e-research sites that I visit. One thing you'll find about David is that I'm a friend to all...until I get burned once. I really do visit just about ANY marine related board...and use the same handle everywhere I go. But TR is the ONLY place that took me in as "Staff". The others didn't have the intestinal fortitude to do so...probably because I push the limits in the hobby often.

In this case, I was replying to a seahorse post on Marine Depot's forums. A simple discussion about tank height and how one member felt that the 3X the length of the seahorse was not needed. My reply was a little harsh, but I am soo done with the topic.... My Reply:

<fredfish (2/18/2006)I like the common response to people asking about seahorse setups...."The tankhight must be 3x thelength of the horse species you plan to keep"...The only reson for this is that someone figured out sehorses need this space to complete their mating ritual.>

Fred,

I'd love to discuss this one with you at GREAT lengths [BigGrin] I'm one of those folks who says 'taller is better' for seahorses no matter what. If you aren't going to breed, get a couple of females. Problem solved.

Think of it outside "aquaria". We know that "optimal" temperature is needed for the development of spermatozoa in homo sapien. (4 to 5 degrees lower than normal body temp). With that said, and given the fact that I'm only 38 and my boy is just 10, and I DON'T want to be a grandparent just yet [Wink] Do I put my son "on ice" for now? It is just a whopping 10 degrees F in New England today. Shall I put him outside?

No; ultimately we MUST create "optimal" environments for ALL of our charges, whether it be our own children or the marine species we've been entrusted with. If you have no desire to replicate the proper conditions for any living creature, leave it to someone else.

If you know just a little about "Hippocampus", you may know that most have a distinct pattern of activity (leaving mating rituals aside) where they cover a water column in a vertical pattern day in and day out. They rise and fall as if outlining a mountain chain. They do NOT simply swim in a horizontal manner. With that said, it is OUR RESPONSIBILITY to provide them with as much 'head room' as possible. Failure to do so would, in my opinion, cause them much distress.

This was in NO way a 'slam' aimed at you, personally. I too am tired of misinformation. In this case, providing the proper quarters for seahorses includes not only water flow, temperature, etc. but tank height. It's just the "right thing" to do.

FWIW, I've had successful 'egg transfers' from my female H. Reidis to their mates in tanks that are considered "too short". In one case, I had one pair in a temporary tank (10 gallon), while I resolved an "issue" in the display. In the couple hours they were in there, they mated.
