You can save the most money long term by supporting you LFS. I would gladly spend more on salt at my LFS because of his service, advice, and the covenienct when I need an item or two immediately.

Sorry Fat Walrus, I have a newborn baby on the way so my knowledge will come from the Talkingreef to save money since those buckets are about 2/3 more expensive.

I agree with JBD. The difference in price is too much to pass up. I will purchase some things from the LFS but unfortunately for the LFS, the price difference is too great. Also, I can find answers to most questions online and the LFS's aren't always right with their advice.

I tell you what though my local fish store House of Fins in Greenwhich, CT always has my business for livestock since they are the best I have ever seen. You have to have a degree in Marine Biology and at least 3 years in the hobby and pass an exam and interview just to work for them. So they can always count on me to come back in. :-)

i try to support my LFS as much as i can, one of them any way :). i send people there all the time as well. but some things i just cant see spending 2x as much on anymore, since im unemployed and pretty much broke.

i too took advantage of that deal and got a few buckets
i get everything from my LFS, i spend hundreds of dollars a month with them. supporting your LFS and passing up a killer deal like this are two different things IMO.

My clostest LFS is not so great. The marine livestock selection is low and they often don't look so healthy. The other livestock does look decent though. Just not a lot of reefers around here. The next closest has great marine livestock but not really the equipment and supplies. I will probably get most livestock there. The third LFS (now we're up to an hour away) is a huge place with lots of everything. The livesotck is a little pricey and sometimes equipment is great deal and sometimes not. It is just a little far to justify going there much.

Anyway, my point is that if I had a great LFS I would definitely be supporting it.

Ya I usually go to the lfs, because the guys friendly and very helpfull so I guess he gets all my business lol, but ya a deal like that is to good to pass up. hmmmmmmmmm I may get a few buckets.............Shaun

I support the heck out of my LFS. When it comes to salt, however, I go to petsmart.com and print out the online price. Bring it to the store and they will honor the online price. Gotta love a bucket of IO for $35 with no shipping. It leaves a lot more money to buy fish, corals, etc.

We DO live in a Free Market System country! We all do group buys...not much difference, from where I sit. I can't remember when I last bought salt from anyone but Fosters & Smith. AND..I own a reef supply business! I can't buy direct from Marineland for what Foster & Smith sell it for!:eek:
