An hour + :D

If there is anyone who can talk as much as Dave.. it's Rob. ;)

It's actually quite fun. Our recording is much like any phone call we've had. I'ts real comfortable just having a conversation. What makes it more fun (other than a real, down to earth host) is that I get to speak about what it is that I'm "into". These lil' ponies just amaze me and I'm glad to pass along some of the information I've found when researching them.

Something you all NEED to know is how great a job that Rob does editing. I rambled on even more so and, as always, had my share of bloopers. I think it is a good episode and I'm glad to have helped.

MAKE SURE you bring up any questions in the seahorse forum. I welcome ANY feedback as it pertains to the content. Especially if you can help set things "right". I'm STILL a newbie with all of you and wouldn't want to pass on any misinformation. Call me on it. You owe it to the community.

Have a great weekend...gonna snow again tonight *sigh* Is it Spring yet???

dave,
im convinced that even after you have been doing this for another 20 years you would call yourself a newb...lol...
dont cut yourself short.. while i understand and respect your viewpoint, you know more than you may portray... but that said, we all continue to learn every day... :)
so i guess we all are newbs... always.. :D

I used to think I knew everything... then I began to truly learn and then learn more....I now realize that I know nothing. :D I'm always a newbie and that's that.

Great show...lots of great information. I'm still considering horses...but probably not now until I can really take care of them. I think the show made me realize they're not that difficult, but I really can't give them what they need right now, due to finances and time.
Thanks,
Jon

What...a venue for me to ramble on about one of my life's passions? You bet I'll be back; both on the podcasts and as much as I can help here, in the forums.

The one problem with "Dave" is that I spread myself too thin. I'm on the Board of Directors for far too many professional and local social boards. I coach no fewer than 3 baseball teams a year and that alone is enough to drive me crazy. I just don't know how to say "no" especially when it comes to kids and my hobbies.

Whenever I have the time to contribute here, you know I will. I love nothing more than to give back to the community(ies) that have helped me along the way in my habit...er...hobby.

Dave's not here man

Actually, if it IS my tank you want to see, it was listed as February's Tank of the Month on a neat little site called "Captive Reefing". You can see it here:

http://www.captivereefing.com/

It is just a single picture on the front page. If you are interested in more pictures, I can start a thread in the seahorse forum.

Study, study, and study some more :) Do try seahorse.org and thier library and forums. Can't go wrong there.

Just make sure you are ready for the commitment. It's hard enough keeping up with a reef and fish that need daily feedings. Ponies need just that much more attention and therefore are not for everyone.

Glad you enjoyed the show. There is SOOO much more that could be covered.

I'm not a member of Boston Reefer, I'm just starting to get interested in saltwater tanks. I've been doing fresh water for years. Reef keeping is the major leagues of aquarium keeping IMHO.

I found the podcast searching iTunes. I do the Catholic Rockers podcast, and was looking for podcasts on aquariums and found Talkingreef.

Glad you found us! And yes, if you get "into" the hobby any further, the Boston Reefers can be a wealth of information and a resource that will save you some money in the long run.

The seahorse show was the first Podcast i listend to at this forum. Great show everything i wanted to know. And I could learn it while waiting in line at the bank :-).

The problem in Sweden, were I´m from is that it´s hard to find Seahorses. This is because it´s illegal to import seahorses thats not tank bred. But after some mailing I got this answer from UK:

Dear Daniel

Unfortunately we do not breed barbouri but we do have tank raised Hippocampus reidii in stock. If you speak to our friends at Akvarielagret in Stockholm or Zoogiganten in Malmo they should be able to help you. Zoogiganten are actually having an order from us next week!

Wayne

Thanks for a great show, forum and for introducing me, Reefbaby.

Welcome Daniel! Glad I could be of some help. I'll tell ya, if you have an opportunity, check out Seahorse.org. There are a LOT of folks from Europe in there, mostly from the UK, and I'm sooo sure that they could point you in the right direction.

Välkommna Daniel (Ahab)!!! So happy to see you here!! Glad you liked the podcast - I knew you would! Dave and Rob have done such a great job here getting information out to people.

Did you happen to ask the guys at Sjöfahrtmuseet where they get their seahorses from?

Komma tillbakka!! :-)

Welcome to TR Cristos!!!

Only some of the podcasts are actual vidcasts. For instance, the Seahorse episode is just audio. Maybe that's why you're not seeing anything.

If you go to the vidcast, such as Kalkwasser DIY, then you should see a video!

Hi guys!
This was my first podcast that I'd listened to from Talkingreef and it really got me excited about getting my new seahorses this weekend! I've had good luck with them in the past, but unfortunately had a fish in my tank last year that was a bit too aggressive and evidentally a tad on the hungry side....he was dismissed from the tank, and only friendly fish remain, so new seahorses will join us this weekend!
Thanks again for a very insightful, entertaining podcast.

Welcome to TR Kristi!!!

What kind of ponies are you getting? What's the set up like? I'd love to hear what you are diving into.

Thanks for the feedback on the show. Now.....you've got some catching up to do :) ALL of the podcasts are worth hearing and archiving.

Well, I stock my own tank, so I will be collecting Hippocampus erectus. I keep a native tank from Maryland's Coastal Bays, with all components collected locally (live sand, whelk, starfish, various other fish). In order to keep things healthy, I only use native fish that would not be immunocompromised to native disease. I currently only have a blenny, but plan to add a couple more fish this weekend (maybe a puffer - haven't decided if they will be too aggressive or not...). I also think I'll add some pipefish along with the seahorses.
