My sons birthday is coming up this weekend and he has asked me for a fish for the saltwater aquarium that I have been slowly building stock on. He has asked me for a a hippo tang (Dorie). I have 80 gallons to play with and will list off what I have in the tank below. I want to still be able to add some corals in a few months so the fish would have to be reef safe. I am looking for suggestions either that the hippo tang would be a good choice or a possible substitute with a fish he might like as well.
1 Metallic Foxface
1 Royal Gramma
1 Coral Beauty
2 Clown Fish
1 Blood Shrimp
A few Turbo Snails
Thanks,
iglowce

awww i love hippo tang. how about naso? or some small fish like gobies, wrasses, or mandarin. iono. maybe take him out and let him pick. u'll be the consultant as to which one he should and should not get =]
naso's and blue hippo tangs really need a tank that's a bit larger.. you can put a small one in there, but it will outgrow it...
gobies and wrasses are commonly good choices, so are anthias and even small schools of chromis.
the royal gamma and clown fish are also good choices and are not much work to keep
the blood shrimp might be a bit aggressive, not out of the question but just to a bit of research before you pick this...
the metallic foxface is what i would choose.. :) they are one of my favorite fish. the foxface (regular or metallic) are very active, hardy, great for cleaning up algae too (macros not film or micro algae)
finally the coral beauty, they are usually good choices, but being a type fo dwarf angel there is always that risk that it will be a polyps eater.. although many will say this risk is small and even worth it..
ok, well thats my thoughts on that
