I was planning on getting 100lbs of Fuji Premium for my 75g.
I ran into a local coral dealer today and got to talking. He mentioned I should get Pukani instead. He claims its more porous - which means 60-70 lbs takes up the same area of space as 100 lbs of Fuji. I would also assume that its greater surface area harbors more bacteria for filtration.
Can anyone attest to this? :fingers:
Any opinions?

It's possible he's correct but not probable. I doubt the difference is measurable. It comes down to what apeals to you in terms of looks. I bought a box of each, Fiji Premium, Tonga Show Branch and Pukani. It has proven to be a great mix for esthetics.
Buy what looks best to you. You have to look at it for a long time.
That's my humble opinion anyway.

i agree with Amphibious. you get to a pint where that 5% increase just doesn't really matter much.
if i had to do it all over again, i would likely go the same route and get a nice mix of various types

I assume you are using 5% hypothetically. I was under the impression that it was more like a 40-50% increase of porosity.
Maybe I'm asking an unanswerable question?
Dick,
Thanks for the advice. The issue with buying what looks good is that I plan on ordering it online. Unless the LFS matches the pricing.
Looks like I have some legwork ahead of me.
yes, sorry.. that was hypothetical.
if you have rock that does have 40-50% more surface area, then rock on.. but if someone then offers you "better rock".. well you know what i mean...
and the other thing is you can really test this beyond looking and holding it.

I know what you mean...;)
Thanks for the input guys.
I need to get my hands on this stuff before I order any. I'll keep you posted.
