Here are a few picture of my new peacock mantis. I'm about 75% sure it's a female so her name is Ellen.

Suprisingly Ellen has made friends with a Blue Damsel.....she's never tried to strike at him.....and he even hangs out in the cave with her.

You're not attached to the damsel, right? We had a domino with our chiragra for the longest time... maybe a year. They shared a cave and whenever the damsel got spooked she would run to her protector mantis. Then one day the mantis got a Brutus bug in his ear and he killed the fish.

Great photos.... she will soon become your favorite critter.

lol no i'm not attached to the damsel. I got him knowing that they would either live in harmony(at least for a little while)....or he would be food.

iono somehow mantis is scary looking to me.. and the fact that it can break ur glass takes it off my list of acquired species

Ehh.....they really aren't that bad. Even though it is possible for larger species of mantis to break glass...they rarely ever do. Mine hasn't even acted like she was going to strike the glass. They are smart creatures......which is why I think they are so fascinating.

What! This doesn't look like a cute puppy dog to you?

The only thing I would caution against is placing the larger specimens in a cheap 10 gallon float glass tank. A piece of acrylic placed in the bottom should prevent any problems.

Megan,

i'm LOVIN' that peacock. FWIW, i agree...it does appear to be a female. be careful...mantis keeping is VERY addictive. next thing you know, you'll have another, and another...
