I have the same issue in my clown trigger's tank. Nothing goes in there that isn't food. Run the biggest skimmer you can afford, and do regular water changes. I suspect a large amount of live rock would help a lot keeping nitrates down as well, though the trigger will denude them of any macro life.

Most reefkeepers don't keep triggers. Snails and crabs is what triggers eat with the exception of a couple specific triggers. I believe the Sargassum Trigger is generally considered reef safe as is the cross hatch. You may find others but the typical LFS triggers (Niger, Picasso, Clown, etc) are definitely snail and crab lovers.
