So, I got a call from a long lost friend. He's moving and needs to get rid of his LR by tuesday. Its about 50 lbs of fiji rock. But heres the problem. I just picked up my new tank today, its a 48x18x18 from glasscages.com. But the problem is the only thing i have is the tank. For lights I have a CF rig on my cichlid tank, and a spare flourescent i could put on there, but thats about it. I still have to build the stand too =/ Whats the bare minimum I could keep this LR alive with. I dont want to miss 50 lbs of rock for how cheap he's selling it for =/

Thanks,
Alex

I cycled all my new rock before i had any lights at all, it was no problem. There are plenty of people who keep LR in unlit sumps too. The bedeficial bacteria will be fine, and even if all the coraline and whatnot dies off, just reseed it with a couple of pieces of LR from the LFS. I think you'd be fine with just water, a heater and some circulation.

yeah, just get a tub, or storage container of some kind, add heater, and powheads and your fine.. ;)
