If its under 600.00 try to get it all used. if its FOWLR im using power compacts on mine with it being fine. so id say either T5 or PowerCompacts its then its up to you on if you want a 24 hour cycle or not.

I'd take a look at the NOVA Extreme T5 fixture, comes with moonlights and built in fans. The reflector setup isnt top end for T5's but for the price I think its worth it. The 4 bulb fixture will be fine for fish and some softies, possibly even some LPS.

These guys ar TR sponsers and have decent pricing on T5 fixtures with the higher end reflectors.

Thanks Dave I will look into them.
Another suggestion I got was these lights and then I could use more as I needed them.

yeah, that looks like a nice T5 hood, and should give you a lot of growth potential

how is the heat do you need a fan with this?

they do give off heat, but much less than MHs
if you get a fixture like this, they will usually be properly cooled with fans.
if you are placing the fixture into an enclosed hood, you may need to vent the hood too

Thanks Rob I will have to look at that web site again because I don't think I saw fans with the lights.

i should say my experience with T5's are limited and because the ballasts are remote (unlike most PC fixtures) they might not need fans in them.
if you get a reputable brand and they dont have fans, i would trust that they are not needed in there..

that said, you want to vent the enclosed hood if you have one
