There is another reef board that Im on alot and they had this same poll. It has over 2000 replies. I was just curious as to how everyone here felt about the subject... :)

Yeah... and on that other board, they asked whether or not seahorses were girly fish!!! :( My response was for a fish species where the male got pregnant, carried up to thousands of fry, had contractions and gave birth, it is very manly.. Most MEN that I know would cry like a baby if they passed a grain sized kidney stone :)

I also said that traditional chinese medicine includes seahorse for "Male problems" and as an aphrodesiac.

I saw the same poll. I was stunned that so many people were eager to debate the subject at length. It's a fish, not a handbag. Yeah, they're delicate and dainty-looking, but at the end of the day, just a fish. I can even see how this could be an arguement if they were a man-made morph, but straight out of the ocean? i would care less. hehe fish is just fish... girly? nah! actually i would love to get those scissors-tail one. they are so cool looking. but i heard they are great jumpers and my tank is open-top so yeah ....

I agree. I dont think they should be labled either. I just thought it was funny that so many people were willing to argue about their choice of fish. I thought it would be fun to see how things were on this side of the fence. :)

I totally agree on that one too. Seahorses are pretty tuff imo.

welll i think it makes no difference! its whatever the owner wants it to be. i mean no girly fish would have cool like flame colored striping!

i am a manly firefish supporter on that other site !! si needless to say, but my answer was NO they are not. i have 4 in my 125.

Frankly, I don't think that I would consider most fish "sexist". I worked in the veterinary clinic at OSU during college and I can say that there are a lot of dog breeds that you see that are primarily owned by women. Interestingly enough there are far fewer breeds where the majority of the owners are men.

Girly fish or not??? Who cares, they're a beautiful fish and a good addition to a non aggressive reef, that's all that matters!

i think they're cool looking, the deep crimson ones are my fave. And besides, theres fire in their name, last i checked fire isnt very girly XD

most of my fish have girl names. dose this make them girly? the only things that have male names are the ones i know are males or the ugly ones such as my sea hare or large spagetti worm whos named mr.Nodle by the wife

well no matter which you guys decide it is, im still getting one. personally though i dont know why its considered girly, but of course there is nothing wrong with girly anything =). but i mean theres so many characteristics about it that make it manlyish. like josh said. FIRE since when was that girly. a flame colored paint job, that sounds manly. and a good jumper. that sounds pretty manly
