This looks just like all my other coraline, but it's growing out off the rock. Is this just a different kind of coraline, or somthing else?

Another nice one. Mesophyllum, I'm not sure if that ones in the slideshow or not. So here's (http://saltcorner.com/sections/guest/algaepage/Red/calcareous/Mmesomorphum.htm) a pic.

Now THAT'S a cool picture. There are 4 or 5 spots of this on one rock. Any reliable way to spread it around?

Sorry I have no experience with this one, my guess is that if conditions for it are good and maintained that way, then its probably pretty good at spreading itself around.

awesome job with the ID's graveyardworm

i agree with the ID
this is a lot like coraline, just leave it alone, maintain coraline and it will grow. IME it doesn't spread as rapid as coraline but with some assistance it will spread more

Yep, nailed em both .
I really like the way it looks, I'm hoping it spreads a little.

I Love the way that looks!
Why, oh why, can't I have something like that growing instead of coraline? I can remember when I was excited that coraline algae was taking off, the rocks were "purpling up" and I'd notice spots on the glass and powerheads. I occasionally buy a peice of live rock with pretty green coraline, and it just gets encrusted with pink and purple now. Is that a light issue?

That's a very good question, and one I have wonsered about. I have 20K HQI bulbs and actinic PCs and have almost exclusively purple coraline. I wonder if a warmer spectrum would select for pink, or red, or green or somthing else? I'm planning to switch over to 10K HQI bulbs sometime in the future,so maybe we'll see.
