yes, should do fine, as long as there are hiding places.
these are strong swimmers, but not like a tang. i kept one in a 29 gallon tank for a while, not that i recommend that. a 50 should be fine thoguh
they are herbivorous, so you have to make sure you meet that part of there diet. i prune caulepra almost daily for him, i sometimes replace that with dried nori sheets, depends on my mood.. ;)
That said, they will eat many things, so they are not "picky" IME

That is a wonderful fish, I have long admired them, but the price when I see them at the LFS is usually pretty steep. So I've settled for a common foxface which are also beautiful just not as striking.

You just have to watch where you stick your hand. I've honestly never felt in a "weird" position with our foxface where I thought there was a chance to be stuck. I started the horrible habit of feeding her by hand and now she won't leave me alone.

I think my regulary foxface lo is not going to make it. I wish I knew why. I like them a lot. I don't want to give up on having a foxface. I like the magnificent foxface a lot...maybe I'll try one if I lose my current one. I just wish I had an idea of why it got sick and has declined so quickly.

How long have you had it, was it QT'd, how big is the tank, how big is the fish, what are you feeding it?
How long have you had it
a couple months now
was it QT'd
yes, but only for about about a week, since i needed the tank for something else
how big is the tank
my QT is usually a 20 gallon long, the display is a 100 gallon wide (4'x2')
how big is the fish
about 5" +/-1"
what are you feeding it?
formula one flake daily, caulepra daily, dried nori occasionally about once or twice a week.

Well, as for mine :)
I have had it about 6 months. It is about 6 inches. I have been feeding it sheets of "green algae" from the LFS, as well as mysis shrimp, emarald entree, and other frozens. It has always eaten very well.

Rob,
These fish in your tank are new after your 'dissaster' you have 2 mandarins? what are they feeding on? They are doing well even in the new tank? I am of course assuming this is a new tank but maybe it is just a move or water from somewhere? I had thought you were going to start fresh.
I am interested in one but they are finicky eaters? I don't think my tank has matured enough to have one.
Oh and to keep on topic that Foxface is SWEET!!!
Seth, the tank is not new, after the incident, i simply let the tank recover.
it seemed that the coral and most fish were affected, however my clown and 2 mandarins made it though. this display tank is connected to a 70 gl refugium and a 50 gallon frag tank, both of which have and do produce LOADS of pods.
i have never seen either of my mandarins eat prepared foods, but i have enough live foodsin my system to make them fat and happy..
in short, its not a new tank, new water, new anything...lol
just 2 days ago i was lookign for my second mandarin.. i kept seeing the male, but the whole day i went by and never saw the female. well i finally found her hiding in a hole, both very happy. as i inspected them, i noticed there bellys were so big they looked liek they were going to pop.. :) so i think food is just fine in there for them..
as for the foxface, thanks. it and my new sixline wrasse are the only fish i have added back, trying to keep a low bio-load. this fish is one i have wanted for years, and is one of my absolute favorites

I guessed you just had a crash and recovery rather than having to redo everything. Glad to hear it is working and the mandarins are nice and fat. They are a great looking fish and I look forward to getting one in the future.
