OK this might sound strange or this might also be something that i should of found out by now but here is goes :)

I came home the other night with a new clam and i noticed that i have microbubbles near the sand. Actually there half on the sand and half on the glass. Now i have heard or i think i have heard. ( my mind is a mystery lol) that nitrates will turn into nitrogen and form air bubbles. I have tested all my nitrates and they are 0. Any ideas?

yes, thats usually whats you see, is nitrogen bubbles (harmless). meaning your sand bed is working at denitrafication.
these bubbles will stick to the glass more if there is at least a thin dusting of algae.

from what you describe it sounds fine.

the only other thing that will cause this is if a pump starting sucking air for some reason and starting injecting micro bubbles into the system

thats a sweet deal that your seeing the gas transfer, it also begs another question, how much flow do you have in the lower reaches of your tank?
In all my years ive never seen it except beading on marine plants. The caotic flow patterns would sweep it away before becomeing noticable.

Cool thanks for the help guys..

The only area that you can see o2 bubbles is in a low/no flow area. I'm going to pick up a pump tonight at work and see what happens, i didn't know it was a dead area. :)
