Setting up a new tank for the critter that followed me home today. Wait until you see it David!

Is it YOUR critter... or for a SaxKid? ;)

And you... you are a tease! I want a MANTIS...

Unfortunately, the LFS around here don't stock them. The ONLY deca's that I see are the "oops I have an ugly brown or green mantis that I need to get out of my tank".

The photoshoot to commence tonight! This is the new mantis we walked home with lastnight. The Saxkid has a swimming pickle.... this one is the swimming Banana. I love this hobby..... ya, that makes 4 mantis' for us.

No... it has to do with something LIKE the Brady Bunch....but this one is a Salty Bunch...

Greg was lucky enough to find a gal who is into the hobby...now, he's got the fraglets interested... there is going to be more water coursing through that house than air!

Greg's daughter has a mantis she calls the swimming pickle.

I was trying to make a color reference to mine but I was actually way off (like I usually am with the darn test kits) and I should have called him a swimming mango.

I don't think he quite believes me that this will be a good place to live. He's not enjoying his QT tank.

He is posing to be a real photograghic nightmare. He is so freaking orange it's hard to stop him from looking like a detailess orange blob.

I'm setting one up this weekend :)

'nee.. can I use a HOB filter, like a cascade thing? A heater, LS, and LR. Is it that simple?

It's that simple. The Chiragra hasn't even had a filter since the move but now just has a little airline.

These are very undemanding critters. Hardy. Friendly. Simple needs! Heck ya don't even have to feed them but a three times a week.

I don't know how interactive the orange one is.... I haven't ID'd him yet. Hopefully he's not a reclusive.

So, I was feeding the ciliata when I felt someone eyes on me. I spun around and there he was like a curious puppydog wondering what I was doing.

Just making sure you were putting water in that mantis tank. :-)

Great shots...

Going to have to put something together tomorrow. I spent the afternoon at Gustavo's (Neo) doing a modification to my Sedra pump on my Euroreef...wellll....it's supposed to be a 10 minute mod, but I took my video camera with me. So, we recorded it and will put it out as a vid-cast. In any case, that burnt my day.

I've got everything I need. Can I just use the standard ol' AGA plastic hood with NO lights? I'm going to do this as part of the water changes and other fish projects tomorrow.

yeppers...plain ol' NO's are fine. in fact, there have been links to shell disease and too much light.

if you use a glass tank (and get a clubber), make sure you lay a piece of 1/8" acrylic over the bottom of the tank before adding substrate or you may end of with a cracked tank.

our tanx are acrylic, but i set up Kate's tank with an acrylic bottom plate.

Sounds like a DIY acrylic job for me :) I'll get started YESTERDAY :)

Actually... I did put off this project once again....I broke the needle wheel in my Sedra (running my Euroreef) and had to do something about it... as it turns out...it became a vid-cast. :)
