It is a DIY means of being able to take "top down" images of the tank, keeping my lens from touching the water and eliminating the distortion of the water surface..
I just love acrylic!

I just bought the underwater case for my camera. I should get it in the tank and get to snappin!! Seahorsedreams 01-08-2007, 11:13 PM What type of underwater housing did you get? I was looking at some last week. But I'm not sure housing can incorporate my macro lens... do you know if they accept larger lenses? JustDavidP 01-09-2007, 09:47 AM It took me sooo long to make this... actually..it took Gustavo soo long...
All in all....about 5 minutes :) Gotta love having the right tools and the materials nearby.

And lots of Beer around too :D
Actually David was helping me to modify a sump that I made about 2 years ago ( the guy wants to cut about 14" of the Length - was 64" long- and reconfigured the positions of the baffles) Then David mention something like "Would be cool if we could make a box to attach to the lens of the camera and use to take top down pictures" and I look at the corner of my basement and guess what? I had about 3 feet of 3"dia acrylic tube and some nylon screws and in less then 5 mins that thing came to live :wow:
I thing took longer for Mr. D get upstairs and bring some extra beerS then to make this thing. :D Dave and NeO,
how about a how-to thread that we can "stick" in the DIY forum, or better yet, a short video we can do as a quick video podcast.. :D
just don't let Dave talk, i don't have enough bandwidth for a video that long... lmao.. (you know im just kiddin) JustDavidP 01-09-2007, 03:43 PM Doooh! I resemble that remark!
I can take video of anything..problem is, I don't have a digital video cam...it's in 8MM.
Dave hmm.. well that makes it a bit tough.. :( JustDavidP 01-09-2007, 03:52 PM Yeah... I'm not a richy-poo type...I'm a reef keeper.. which = POOR MAN :) Dave and NeO,

I'm up to it.
Now you gonna make clean and organize my basement?
Yeah... I'm not a richy-poo type...I'm a reef keeper.. which = POOR MAN :)
Yeah right!!!!
I dont have a digital camera either but I dont think that will be a big problem. David can get one :tongue2:
Gustavo lol.. well if you can get one let me know i think it would be a cool little video.. :) keyozoxmfc 01-09-2007, 04:57 PM ohh i know if you have a mac, you can use a usb cable to hook up a 8mm video camera to a computer. i did it for a school project at the beginning of this year...well actually i think the camera was "hi8" but it still was a tape. some Hi8 cameras have a USB output for streaming, yes,
Digital8 has the firewire output for full digital uploads.
if its Hi8, record it and send me the tape, you can use a Hi8 tape in a Digital8 camera, which i have.. :) JustDavidP 01-10-2007, 10:03 AM Okay... maybe it's because I'm tired (Rob & Greg had me up until almost midnight last night recording) or maybe it's just because I like all of you... :) But... Neo (Gustavo) and I have decided to take you up on your challenge. We will make a vidcast of sorts...
We will use my camera (which I found is more than capable)
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d176/JustDavidP/vidcam.jpg
and record the various projects we do over the next few weeks and we will have an "acrylic 101" type of video ready.
To follow suit with Rob's new podcasting format, we will not rush this, but put together some footage to make a decent product in the end. Look for more news later.

Oh Lord! How short did ya think it was gonna be with the two "War and Peace" boys.
And look internally David, when trying to figure out who I'm talking about. :D JustDavidP 01-10-2007, 12:20 PM Well you are right... for speaking with Greg for the first time, it felt like we knew each other forever... not just the couple/few years we've been bumping into each other on the WWW. He's just as laid back and collected as I am :) Yeah...and he can talk..like me... so...add Rob into the mix and whoah!! It was like a "talkathon" :)

D Seahorsedreams 01-11-2007, 07:42 PM Rob, I don't find you quite so.... verbose. You are more to the point. lol.. good..
i try, but sometimes in not so sure..
i think its because i don't have the time to be so verbose..
i mean i have read just about everyone of the almost 40,000 posts here. and keeping up with the recent rates of 100-200 posts a day is a full time job, so i just gotta spit it out and move on...lmao.. :D |
