View Full Version : Monti nubidranch ?? Victoria 01-03-2007, 06:40 PM I got some really nice encrusting montipora the other day from the LSF. Local is 300 miles away:( . Anyway I do not know what montipora eating nudibrachs look like. Any one have a picture. I have this coral in my QT tank, and have been watching. It would help if I knew what I was watching for. Any help would be great:D they are little and white, Amphibious had some pictures posted, i will search around for them that was quick, here is the thread on them

And so far I have not seen any of them. I was worried because there were spots of bleaching. Could of happened at the LFS. I will keep watching to be safe. iglowce 01-09-2007, 10:37 PM thanx for the tips Victoria 01-12-2007, 05:26 PM Ok my two pieces have been in my QT tank for a little over a week. There was some bleaching on the edge of one, which is why I was supect of nutibranchs. It could of been damage from the LFS? The area has no futher bleaching, and I have not spotted any of the nutibranch. I have looked after dark, and on the underside of the coral. My question is... do you think It would be safe to put them in my display tank yet?? Or should I wait another week?? here is how i see it.
you put them in the QT at first sign of problem (good call)
after this you continue to monitor, and at no point have you seen any sign of any pest.
since its been over a week with nothing, i "personally" would think its ok, and the bleaching was likely stress related or something else. although if you want to be safe you could do a FW dip first, or just leave it in there longer Victoria 01-12-2007, 07:32 PM Thank you Rob
I think I will look real hard again tonight, and if there is none I will be good to go. I would think that if there were any I would see more damage right? I have not seen any nuti's, and everytime I thought I did I removed it and looked under a scope. None found as of yet. yes, you would likely see it by now.
and you would likely also see continuing damage to the coral Victoria 01-23-2007, 12:41 AM Here's a picture of one of my latest additions. It has colored up quite nice. I took it out of QT last week. I really like it. Does anyone know what kind of Montipora this is?
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e284/VICTORIARAW/cubejan034.jpg iglowce 01-24-2007, 01:03 AM mondata? never heard of.. someone else agree ? iglowce 01-24-2007, 01:03 AM also Rob, is mondata a rare monti? i think you might mean M. undata?
i have never heard of Monitpora mondata
or even mondata as a common name iglowce 01-24-2007, 01:11 AM ooops i was skimming through the forum. M. undata..sry about that. so yeah is it rare? M. Undata is what i recommended it was, its just shot for Montipora undata
they are not exactly rare, they are just not the most common monitipora kept. there are not as readily available to hobbyists and because they are often found with very beautiful coloring they are often expensive. if it is Montipora undata, this species does go by a common name of idaho grape Victoria 01-24-2007, 06:17 PM I payed $20.00 was that good? i would say it is, its looks like a nice piece to me..
here compare to this
Limited Editions Montipora undata Grape (http://www.reeffarmers.com/limitedmontiporagrape.htm)
$70 for 1" frag
again, if this is a M. undata also, i know Amphibious has an undata and had some pictures but i cant find them now wwest 01-24-2007, 10:03 PM Very nice Monti Victoria. I have always liked your selection of corals. Do you get your stuff locally or over the net? Victoria 01-25-2007, 12:56 PM Hi Wesly
I really don't get much..no room. But when I come across a piece I like I do get it. I found this piece in Reno NV its the closes LFS I have, about 180 miles from home. I was looking in their coral tank and first time throught I did not even notice this piece. It was very pale purple, and had been passed up in the big sale on the passed weekend. It was on the second time around I saw it, not what I would call a coral that stands out. But I have found my best pieces this way. So I don't allways look for the show stopping coral. I check health, polopy extinsion. And of course possibility!! Victoria 01-25-2007, 12:57 PM Thanks Rob for the ID. |
