I hear some people say that they want to throw away thier PC and get metal halide because they are sick of the yellow light coming from the PC. Is this true? How does a MH pendent work, do you have to get a pendent the length of your tank?

Are you referring to this post (http://www.talkingreef.com/forums/40236-post8.html) ?

I think that poster may have regular fluorescent lights, and not PC fluorescent.

If you support your PC's with actinics, I think it looks crisp white. However, I prefer MH's with the shimmer and 14k or up for the blueish tint. 10K MH's should be close to the same color as PC's.

i personally think that PC's look more blue than a 10k halide. i have 4x65w PC's on my 55 softy tank, and i had to add 3x110w (2 10K and 1 superblue) VHO's to get the color i like. it is more of a crisp white with a hint of blue. kind of like 10k halide with PC actinic supplemental lights.
depends on your tank length as to how many pendants you will need. the manufacturers recommend 1 halide for every 24" of tank. so on a 6' tank, you need 3 halide pendants.

oh I see, I have a 30in which is an odd tank for light sizes. Gwen thanks it's good to hear that about PC's because MH can get rather expensive.
