are you thinking Pavona coral, Rob ??

no...
Hydnophora rigida

thats the name.. darn.. i racked my brain all after noon trying to remember that... :)

but yes, you are right it might be Pavona sp also

The hydnophona has a tendancy to grow more in a branching patern, and the Pavona tends to form more plate like structures. by that i mean they are wide and thin, not plating like Echinopora or a M. Capricornus just more side branches..
i actually have kept both of these. there appearance can vary but in my specimens the overall structure was the same. the Hydnophora has a mean sting but mine never had long sweepers, where the Pavona has a men sting and very long sweepers, but seem to only let them out in defense not for feeding

i have a pavona that looks a lot like that, but the color is a little different (we all know that means nothing though).
after doing a google search ... i am going with your ID on it. i got some images, but only one or two had the longer polyps.

well iglowce,
it looks like we will need some better photos, but for right now we have it down to these two
1.) Hydnophora rigida
2.) Pavona sp

with Number 1 being the the more likely

(thanks for the help bobby)

Hey thanks guys you helped me identify the last coral I have in the prop... donated by some guy breaking down his system. He said he found it in his sump and didn't even know what it was... it's a green hydnophora!
