Well here is my unknown coral, I,ve been told its a kind of mushroom?? Looks awesome when it inflates to its full size. I'd like to frag it but don't know how. Most of my other corals have been helpfull and spread for me, but this one wont seem to jump or sprout new colonies.

looks like some type of mushroom or blasto?
its the egg sacks of the aliens from Jupiter, they got in your tank and infested your rock, hurry run, or they will infest you too....
or... i suppose it might be a blasto, but im not too sure... i still vote for eggs sacks from Jupiter aliens :D

I think aliens too. You might have to call Ellen Ripley to help ya out. But be careful they can jump. :)

That WOULD explain the tentacles at night! LOL
So it's a blasto, can I frag this or must I wait for it to reproduce on its own?

It's not a blasto... it's called "trouble-Ismine-oma"! It is a bad bad thing to have in your tank. I'm suggesting that you pack it up and mail it to me... I know how to take care of the buggers! ;)
Nice blasto...irritate the coral so it closes up and cut in between the polyps using a dremel with a diamond wheel or another quick cutting blade to cut through the base...

yes, Blasto it is....but, Dave, have you ever fragged a Blasto? Even when I irritate mine, the polyps are soooo close to their neighbors that they're almost attached! I don't think i could get anything between them....

in fragging you almost always cut tissue. blasto's are no different. the key is to cut as little tissue as possible. this is usually in the thinest part of the skeleton.

hmmm...I'll have to try that out sometime.
speaking of blastos....how quickly do they form a skeleton? The polyps on mine have been continuously expanding and proliferating, but it seems as if the skeleton doesn't grow at all....they're kind of starting to grow around and towards the back....

it should expand to cover the rock that it's sitting on. the polyps themselves looks great though!

i am not sure how fast the skeleton will grow, but with proper calcium and alk. levels, it should do a fairly decent job of keeping up on its own.

It looks like Blasto to me.
