I received this today from my favorite local fish store. Well know one that has seen it knows what it is. The store received it as a gift on a peace of rock. However for some reason it is rotting so i am going to try and revive it for them. Any help would be appreciated..

Yea its soft and it also has very very little polyps.

Im almost sure its in the Alcyoniidae sp.family but i cant confirm it.

Totally looks like a finger leather we got as a hitchhiker. It's big now..... lemme see if I can tick it off, grab a pic and we can then compare.

Now I just touched it a little so the polyps would retract a bit.

Of course, to set a good example Wes has placed this unknown coral of unknown origin and questionable health in a quarantine tank away from his other livestock ... right, Wes? :D

I'd say it looks like a generally unhappyLobophytum sp. (maybe L. compactum or "Devil's Hand"?).

Hard to tell in the pic, are the polyps quite sparse and generally far away from each other compared to something like a run-of-the-mill toadstool leather (Sarcophyton sp.)?

I have found that tropicaloceanreef.com has lots of pictures, and descriptions.
I think I have seen that type of coral there, but I can't remember the name.

Is it dry and leathery feeling or slimy feeling?

Its just a finger leather. Since the picture its about 8 inches tall and 5 inches wide. I have also fragged it three times :) Its alittle mad at me right now because i had a calcium precipitation problem but i have since fixed it :) Its starting to look great again. :)
