I was looking in the aquarium and i found these white bulb like spots on two of my rocks. does this sound familiar to anyone? sorry my camera sucks so it would not be visible if i posted a pic. they look like polyps on a bubble tip anemone but their white and directly on the rock.

I have some of them, they look like white pineapples (well mine do), egg shaped with little hairs on top. I have no clue what they are but I have like 30 counting the ones on the glass.

http://www.reefs.org/hhfaq/img/faq_sponge.jpgYou may have a small species of sponge, probably Leucilla,Leucandra, Scypha = Sycon, or Clathrina. These small sponges are often missed in nature due to their small size, but they are usually seen in our small glass boxes. They are taxonomically found in Class: Calcarea.

This is a harmless Scypha sponge. They are very small, and usually found in our overflow boxes and down in the sump. Attached to rock, glass or acrylic or even your plumbing, they may be about the size of a grain of rice or perhaps larger, like Debi's above. These little filter-feeders are reef-safe.

I had thoses in my tank for a while. They are all gone now. I was told it was a sign the tank was on the right track.
Here is a photo.

They tend to subside in an older tank as other livestocks outcompetes it. They are harmless and is actually benificial in newer aquariums.

The fact that they are now gone means you have reduced the nutrients in your tank. They are quite harmless but when they thrive it means there is "extras" in your tank to feed these filter feeders.
