What do you think the little pink spikes are? I've never noticed them before tonight and they don't seem to be anywhere else in my tank.

Thanks. I have one of my rocks partially covered in brown velvety sponges but I've never seen any pink ones in my tank. That is what I love about this hobby, something like that just pops up.

They're called Foraminiferans (http://www.reefs.org/hhfaq/pages/picture_pages/faq_foramred.html). They're filter feeders and harmless. Delbeek and Sprung list them as a sign/consequence of a healthy aquarium. I think they're calcerious like coraline, but not sure.

These are probably foraminiferans. These little creatures are basically shelled protozoans, one celled organisms (Subphylum: Sarcodina - the amoebas). They form shells primarily composed of calcareous material, with siliceous material from sponges, or other organic material. They are mostly sessile (non-moving), but can move with the use of temporary structure called a "pseudopodia". This little "arm" reaches out and pulls the rest of the critter along. In any event, they are harmless bacterial/detrital consumers. There are many different shell shapes and colors that these guys may have.

I have one of the little white tree without leaves looking ones that has been in my tank ever since I started. It has never grown or moved or anything. I had decided that it was just a dead skeleton of something. These are a pretty pink and look like tubes. I've read a bunch of stuff this PM and they sound really cool.
