View Full Version : Rob's Disaster Relief Fund Reefbaby 10-27-2006, 05:21 AM I have set up the following announcement on all forums...
As I'm sure most of you are aware by now, Rob has recently had a major disaster in his tank and has lost most of his corals that he's been growing for several years. (See thread (http://www.talkingreef.com/forums/showthread.php?p=34499#post34499) and podcast (http://www.talkingreef.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2656))
Unfortunately, this is something that can happen to any of us, for various reasons.
Steve of Coral Dynamics has been so generous as to help me set up a Disaster Relief Fund for Rob. Steve will then add $50 to our donations to help get Rob started up again. If you find it in your heart and wallet to help out a friend in need, please do so with any amount that you find appropriate. Rob has been a priceless resource for all of the Talkingreef members and has donated enormous amounts of his own time and money to help all of us. Let's all pitch in and help him get his tank up and running again!
To help:
You can go directly to Donate to Rob (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_xclick&business=steve%40coraldynamics%2ecom&item_name=Rob%20Weatherly%20%28TalkingReef%2ecom%2 9&item_number=Tank%20Crash%20Donation&no_shipping=2&no_note=1&tax=0¤cy_code=USD&lc=US&bn=PP%2dDonationsBF&charset=UTF%2d8) to make your contribution veriann 10-27-2006, 08:19 AM ive tried like 8 times to send, i keep getting time-out errors. WTF , surely it cant be my slow-ass connection! anyone else experiencing this or am i standing in the open again! CoralDynamics 10-27-2006, 09:06 AM Hi Christi, thanks for putting this together. I will simply provide the collection point for Rob. You can also post the page that is at the Coral Dynamics site on your other sites where you all see fit.
Robs Donation Page (http://68.178.134.23/weatherly.asp)
I agree that Rob has given all of us so much, this is just a little bit of return for him.
I will provide daily totals to this thread if anyone is interested. Reefbaby 10-27-2006, 10:20 AM Hmmm....it works for me. Doesn't it link you if you click on "Donate to Rob"? Reefbaby 10-27-2006, 01:16 PM So, I think the link is working. It worked for me and for Cabbagehead.
V - can you let me know if you've tried it again? Thanks! :D veriann 10-27-2006, 06:18 PM yeah well, shucks, only i could stuff a simple 3 stage process!
its
TIMING OUT AGAIN.
show me a back door guys, cause my computers not wise to the ways of pay pal! i almost feel like i need permission just to access the net! lol. if its a connection speed thing i can try when im at work, although when i last membered up it was fine! i think i need to pluck a tuff of chest hair and blow it from my fingers to call my monkey cloud of speed! CoralDynamics 10-27-2006, 09:11 PM I am not sure why PayPal is a problem on the dialup connection. If you want to, you can use a Gift Certificate Purchase and just be sure to note on there that it is to be included in Robs Disaster Releif Fund.
Coral Dynamics - Gift Certificates (http://68.178.134.23/sales.htm)
I will simply transfer the amount of the certificate to the PayPal donation totals. Reefbaby 10-28-2006, 08:24 AM hey Steve - It'd be great it you could start posting a tally!
and V - maybe try using the gift certificate instead. Sorry that you're having such troubles with it! :( CoralDynamics 10-28-2006, 08:27 AM Total as of this morning is ...
105.00 veriann 10-28-2006, 06:15 PM yeah, what can u do, i tried again just now, its crazy, same thing keeps happening. got to be from my end for sure. i looked at the CoralD E_Gifts, (Thanks Steve)
i seemed to incure postage though, & my tolerance is limited to the Sh$#%y conversion rate only. So ive decieded to try tommorow at work. if not i'll do it as the rest of the real world does and transfer in manually!
We currently have 1010 members, if only for the fact that rob works so hard to contaminate the airwaves i dont see why we cant raise at least $10 from every member. its like giving 1hour of your life back for a dude thats given thousands.
if that cant raise him from gunk container situation nothing will! just as long as he doesn't make a habbit of it, im happy to help out a mate! CoralDynamics 10-28-2006, 06:55 PM i looked at the CoralD E_Gifts, (Thanks Steve)
i seemed to incure postage though,
You are welcome...though there should not have been any shipping charges...I looked, and corrected the problem with that. sorry for the problem and thanx for finding the bug for me! CoralDynamics 10-29-2006, 01:49 PM As of the current time

Sorry, old Army saying... before radio and TV were 24/7, things were guaged by when they came back on the air...
sorry for the confusion... veriann 10-30-2006, 06:36 AM your a cool sponsor steve, your taking those extra steps that dont go un-noticed, thanks alot for contributing to our site! just quietly though because im not in america & havn't frequented your site much, would i be mistaken in saying i didn't see a TR logo in the page u linked, or does sponsorship work both ways?
i shouldn't get to cheeky with the sponsors now should I! lol CoralDynamics 10-30-2006, 07:05 AM You are correct. I was waiting for a "non-halloween" version of the logo. So I went searching and found one finally at the CafePress site for Rob's TR logo Items... So it has now been updated!
Thanx for bringing that to my attention. Thanx also for the nice comments! Reefbaby 10-30-2006, 07:59 AM $220!!!! That's great!!! Woo hoo!!! Rob's going to have to grow up all these beautiful corals and share his frags with us! :D
do you think this announcement is visible enough on the site?? veriann 10-30-2006, 03:51 PM well RB, it could be made into a window that everytime u try to close it> it moves on you, but in keeping with the thinking that im annoying enough, prob best to create a small banner or pledge photo instead! lol
your a champ steve;)
im a sraight shooter> prob the aussie way!
clip me if im to dirrect & i'll re-word things in a more american friendly way ok..lol CarmieJo 10-30-2006, 06:55 PM
do you think this announcement is visible enough on the site??
I think that it is pretty visible. The only other thing would be a scrolling banner. CoralDynamics 10-30-2006, 10:41 PM Another 10...
Total now 230.00

BTW- Total is still 230.00 for now. CarmieJo 11-01-2006, 10:15 PM Manny, that is great! I think that I remember that Rob said that he wanted a calcium reactor a few months ago. thesaent14 11-01-2006, 10:27 PM me and rob talk about a diy calc reactor before all this happen and i think now he needs more i think is the least i can do for him after all he helps us all with the podcast

Thadius 11-06-2006, 04:05 AM G'day guys,
It's so gratifying to see such an already amazing community really getting together for such a worthy cause, doing what we can to help out the person who brought us all together, and keeps us growing.
This just goes to show that even the worst situations can always have some kind of an upside.
Great work TR Community! Best of luck, great work and thank you Rob!
Cheers :) veriann 11-06-2006, 05:21 AM hey bud, damn , havn't seen u in like ages mate, u take up kite surfing yet>?

good to see ya, stop in more often ok. Thadius 11-06-2006, 05:43 AM Hey Veriann :)
I'm always about... Just never feel like I've got many things to add, still quite the n00b.
New 150g is plumbed, I'm getting pics and such. Just a matter of cash and a few weekends before it's done :) Travelled the world in honour of my father a few weeks back too, hence no mumbles from me :)
Cheers veriann 11-06-2006, 05:54 AM http://www.alexander-oberg.de/smileys/abschied.gif glad to see everythings going ok, both personal & tank wise.
and here>>>hold thishttp://www.alexander-oberg.de/smileys/eatthis.gif, with that noobie attitude you need it more than i do..lol. we're all noobies at something remember, just jump in anytime cause theres no such thing as feeling stupid u know, believe me, your not the one that see's this face every morning...lol CoralDynamics 11-07-2006, 12:26 PM Nothing new to update today, we are still sitting at...
300.00 Reefbaby 11-07-2006, 12:30 PM Great! Maybe we can just keep it going until the weekend and then present Rob with the final sum (people can still contribute after that if they'd like), but it'd be nice to get Rob up and going again with his tank. RocketSeason 11-08-2006, 09:38 AM the sooner the better I say. He probibly needs some replacement equipment sooner rather than later. Reefbaby 11-08-2006, 09:52 AM well....I don't think it's his equipment that crashed! :D
So, here's some last calls for some desperate measures!!!
Anyone out there that has benefitted from all of Rob's efforts and would like to contribute a little something back to him? If everyone could just pitch in $10 a person, we'd be able to present him with something to help get him going again - and hopefully have something better than before! veriann 11-08-2006, 09:27 PM equiptment no, livestock & morality yes.
if you can spare it guys> 10 smackos isn't much of an asking, id eat dog biscuits for that much.:o
Looking at the more mischevious side we can hold Rob to ransom over doing some more vidcasts that we all enjoy so much. thesaent14 11-08-2006, 11:50 PM equiptment no, livestock & morality yes.

i am sorry i ofert my calc reactor which is worth 250$ and its my work if rob dont want it and want the money just let me know and ill sale it to some one and send him the money
manny Reefbaby 11-09-2006, 12:20 AM oh manny!!! I certainly didn't mean to imply that your offer wasn't completely generous and also very much wanted!!!:agree: :love!:
you were right that Rob was actually very keen on getting a calcium reactor and I know he'll be really excited about getting one from you!
(I was just trying to clear up the fact that it was livestock that was lost to the crash of the tank, not equipment) thesaent14 11-09-2006, 12:28 AM lol i know reef baby i was just mesing with variann as a J/K no bad taken now rob will need a co2 tank and regulator with the controler so people lets see some one must have some of the xtra parts we all do RocketSeason 11-09-2006, 09:48 AM I thought he lost some equipment when the water sprayed all over the outlets.
Anyways, there is alot of very expensive things that need replaced. So every little bit helps! veriann 11-10-2006, 06:55 AM Its all about helping out a mate. Im aware Rob doesn't exactly make a profit keep all you see here afloat. Bandwidth costs alone would give you 8ball headaches. Those of you that keep websites would be aware that donations offset some of the costs but in the end its still hitting your hip pocket. The donation bases here is out of compasion & respect for someone that taken the harder road & still manages to keep us afloat. Honestly guys im greatful for everyone thats donated something to the cause. Speaking from the heart from one Aussie to the rest of the world though, ive seen more moneys raised by a $2 hooker in asia than ive seen within this thread.
http://www.alexander-oberg.de/smileys/Affe_zeigt.gifcough up the 10ers you tight-asses.lolhttp://www.alexander-oberg.de/smileys/BBbad.gif Reefbaby 11-14-2006, 04:29 AM okay....let's total it up then. Once I know the final sum, then I'll send a PM to Rob and make an announcement and then he can get going with his tank again.
