im assuming D is talking about drilling the base! as most american tanks use tempered on the base, or so ive heard!
in that case you should drill through the back with a somewhat modified design for the intakes. add it to the collection of returns.

How thick is the glass? alot of the time ( not all ) they will put tempered on the bottom and the rest will be non tempered. but dont quote me on that. I beleive if the glass is 1/16 iinch thick then the hole tank is tempered(usualy). if its over 1/4 inch then its probably non tempered. I could be wrong though. im sure each company has there own design.

What the manufacturer and the thickness?

Set us up with make and model and we may be able to help. I drill the backs of my tanks if needed and use a PVC elbow and strainer on the bulkhead. It works like a charm.

yes, you should be able to drill the sides panes of glass as shown in the picture by Dave above. this can be done with no problems with the right equipment.

Here is a link (http://www.talkingreef.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2508&highlight=drilling+tanks) with Duane's (wildone) How to on drilling a tank. The only thing i can say is be carefull and take your time. i didnt use a mount on mine and it took me 52 minutes to drill threw 1/4 glass. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Great minds think alike i guess :)

I'll tell you what...

I'm setting up the clam tank and building a new seahorse tank. I'll document some of it with my digi-camcorder.

You can see some of my seahorse tank in video here:

I love Tridacnids second only to seahorses. I wish I could keep one IN WITH my seahorses, but that is a recipe for disaster.

I have no problems discussing clams at great lengths if anyone is inspired to do so.
