View Full Version : Show us YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! gwen_o_lyn 09-13-2006, 10:36 PM What do u guys/gals look like???? Show me a picture of you and someone else and tell us who they are.
Let's try and keep this thread with minimum chit chat. If you want to comment on a pic, then you must post a picture. If you have already posted a pic, but you have another comment to make, then u must post another picture. Fair?
Here is a pic from my recent trip to MN viewing the mine pits up north. This is my cousin Kim and we are 2 months apart. We have another cousin, Bradd, born between us. She got all the Swedish genes- I'm jealous!! This is my 'a la natural' look- eek!
http://www.talkingreef.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=668&stc=1&d=1158199957 My Dad and I. We weren't very close when I was younger, but we are making up for that now.

My Dad and I. We weren't very close when I was younger, but we are making up for that now.I know exactly where you're coming from PSH. Had the same situation with my son until he was 36. He turned a corner at that time and we began building a relationship at that point. He's now 44 and just the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. We definitely have a great relationship now. I'll try to find a pic of us together. He lives in Montana.
I suppose now I owe this thread a picture. Amphibious 09-14-2006, 12:43 AM I don't know if you've seen this one but, there are lots of new members that don't know me. This is my wife Sue, my soul mate. We've been married 19 years. Moved into our new home in FL on September 10th, one year ago. This is our fireplace which is in our bedroom.
http://www.theculturedreef.com/Rich-n-Sue-6.jpg
Sue is the sparkle in my life!!! We have no children together and she didn't have any with her first husband. We really enjoy FL. I'm retired and she is a nurse. Sue is 10 years my junior Great to have a face to put the name too Amphibious. I know what you mean about your soul mate. My wife and I have been together for 10 years on Sept. 30. We have been married for 2 years. She has been great putting up with all my hobbies.
Oh and to follow Gwen's rules... here is a picture of my son and I from our trip to Florida. We arrived just in time for hurricane Frances and left just before Ivan hit. We did manage to squeeze a little fun out of the vaction that we saved for. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v669/PonderosaSnakeHouse/DadandBooDolphinWatching.jpg veriann 09-14-2006, 06:16 AM carbon copy & myself kick'n' back by the water Amphibious 09-14-2006, 08:04 AM Wow, V, I thought that was you in your Avatar. :rotfl: Cute frag you got there. Amphibious 09-14-2006, 08:28 AM My son, Keith, flew down to FL from Montana for a visit last January. When he got off the plane he complained of being starved so we stopped at a Hooters for a bite to eat. Keith is quite shy for a guy 44 and he really liked this waitress. So, the "old man", set this up with the waitress and she was really into it. By the way, Keith is single.
http://www.theculturedreef.com/Keith-%201-14-06.jpg
Keith has no interest in aquariums, even though we had many in our life while he was growing up. We had a retail LFS for awhile too. He loved helping people and knew quite a bit given his age at the time was pre teen. He wanted to be an auto mechanic in the worst way. Today he is a Cadillac Technician at a GM dealership in Missoula, MT. He had no formal education in his field, all self taught. He's an electronic wizard in my humble opion. Did I mention he is single? :D JustDavidP 09-18-2006, 03:47 PM I wouldn't describe that as 'a la natural' and I certainly wouldn't say - eek. Of course I haven't seen you in person, yet. :D .

Most of you know I'll never have natural Grandchildren. That fact causes me some heartache because I long to be a Grandfather. So, to compensate and get some relief I "adopt" other families' kids as Grandkids. Here are two of my favorites (Actually, I say that about all my G/kids).
I recently went "home" to Madison, WI for my 50th class reunion. While I was there I visited my hairstylist/barber Lisa for a trim. I asked if she would be at church Sunday. She said, "You just want to see the kids, don't you." The kids call me "Nemo guy" because when that movie came out, Vanessa and Dalton were pestering to have a Nemo fish. Lisa asked me to intervene and explain the problem with having a Nemo fish. They came over to the house one day and of course I had a pair of black Percs. The kids were captivated and went to tears when I explained why it wouldn't be wise to have Nemo in their home at this time. But, a good Grandpa always has a plan to comfort the sadness. I had picked up some Ocellaris Clown pins about 1" long. Just at the right time, tears flowing moment, I said they could have a Nemo pin. Wow, how quickly the tears turned to smiles and hugs. "Grandpa" saved the day and won over two little hearts.

Meet my adopted "Grandkids", Vanessa and Dalton Wagner of Madison, WI, my home town. Oh, and that's "Nemo guy" in the middle. Reefbaby 09-28-2006, 11:55 AM awwhh....thanks Amp! What a great photo. They look adorable! (all three!) :D

I have one...I look absolutely disgusting! It was about 3 days after my reconstructive nose surgery (no - it wasn't a nose job - the reconstruction was all internal!)
I think it was one of the most excruciatingly painful experiences of my life. My entire face ended up turned green/yellow and took about 8 weeks to completely disappear as the color ran down my face and ended up at the bottom of my cheeks.

Cool, they had one on display in D.C. years ago. It bloomed and all these people flocked to it (like the flies mentioned in that article). It makes sense; people in Washington D.C. are attracted to the smell of rotting flesh, being around so much politics all the time. I never got a chance to see, or smell, it though.

In the original post of this thread (#1) the rule was stated that if you posted a comment to a picture post, you had to post another picture of yourself.
So, in that context, I dug deeeep into my archives and came up with this picture from about 28 years ago...when I was lean, mean and HOT. :rotfl:

A friend and me at Venice Beach - I'm the one with the Super Package:
http://whitenebula.com/tr/venice.jpg
(Just read the rules - oops. That's one of my best friends, Lana. She used to live near me, but now it's a 7-hour drive to hang out... This picture was during one of her trips down to see me.)
The Ducks sure did screw up the playoffs this year.
http://whitenebula.com/tr/ducks.jpg
I'll be 30 this year, but don't tell. I think there might be a rule preventing me from partaking in such bright colors once that birthday hits. If there is, I plan on breaking it.
http://whitenebula.com/tr/purple.jpg Sheol 05-01-2008, 12:23 AM Does anyone find it ironic that so many reef keepers go fishing?
Yes! Haha. I've never liked seafood, and now that I've found a new obsession, I feel more justified in avoiding the little guys, but it sure does make me sad when I see a bunch of dead shrimpies on a plate.
Here's one more pic - hanging out with the stingrays in the Cayman Islands:

Fun times.
(Per Rules: That's me with my boyfriend's family. I'm on the far left near his sister. His step dad, mom, brother, friend, and sister's boyfriend are also in there. My boyfriend never touched the water on a week-long trip to the Caymans - didn't even pack board shorts! He's crazy sometimes.) Amphibious 05-01-2008, 07:10 AM Hey Jen,
Thanks for posting the pics. It's always better to be able to put a face on a name when corrisponding with TR members. That is some "Super" package you've got there amd Lana has a great set of "flags". :rotfl:  My favorite is the second pic, very nice! Turning 30 shouldn't keep you from wearing bright colors but one day you might want to give up the tongue thingie. Maybe by the time you are my age (70)? :showoff:
And now in keeping with the "rules". Here is a shot my wife, Sue, took of me taking a picture of trees???
http://www.theculturedreef.com/RLH-4-08.jpg
No, actually I was getting a few shots of an eagle's nest near our home.

one day you might want to give up the tongue thingie. Maybe by the time you are my age (70)?
I think not! I would say, if my teeth started falling out, that might convince me to do it, but then again, my teeth may fall one one day unassisted! I have already had one root canal on a front tooth, which was likely associated with the damn thing, but I've had it now for 12 years. veriann 05-02-2008, 11:33 PM Im glad we got that ninja hack attack sorted, thanks bobby, although why do i get the impression is was one of my dodgy pictures.....lol

Holy snakes Batman. That's a lot of snake. I assume that's you in the picture, Bobby?
You guys got it right. It's a Coral Snake. Wandered onto our screened-in patio/pool area, under a door I guess. We just guided him out the other side door and off he went. He wasn't aggressive at all so we saw no need to destroy him. We've had Indigo Racers on the patio and they are very excitable and strike out at you with aggression. They are nonpoisonous but, I I don't want to get bit anyway.

Actually I intentionally choose androgynous screennames. I find that in general it reduces some of the assumptions/misconceptions that can be formed before I even speak to people--therefore, you weren't supposed to know. ;)

Hey, seriously, please help me understand the assumptions on a reef keeping site just because you are a female? U can pm me or post. Thanks!

It wasn't related to this being a reef keeping site. I said, "I intentionally choose androgynous screennames," not "I intentionally chose an androgynous screenname for this site." Most of the sites I visit are video game forums (actually, I'm even the webmaster for one)... I suppose it would make more of a significant difference there, but I've grown accustomed to screen name anonymity. However, I've been too busy for any site except for this one lately.
Also, I've never joined a reef keeping site before, so I have absolutely no past experience with interactions on one.
let alone the assumptions im female
Totally would have had you pegged for a chick.

I think you are right behind the Bride on the left.
For the past 30 years I've had the absolute privilege of being "adopted" by other people's children as a father/grandfather figure. All of my "kids" have meant a great deal to me. Here is Maria cutting up for the camera.

Maria is an aspiring journalist writing/reporting on sports events in and around Madison. She gets into all the U of W sporting events including football games. Which is right up her ally, being around all those jocks. :showoff:

No way. My paternal grandmother lived in Highland Falls, so I spent many a visit in the shadow of Bear Mountain and West Point. She had this great house perched above the Hudson, and always had trays of baked goods waiting for us on her enclosed porch. We used to shoot BB-guns at soda cans and scale down the craggy wooded slope to the Hudson to put pennies on the railroad tracks. My Grandfather was a Master Stone Mason, and from what I heard helped to build a portion of West Point's many buttressed walls and stone buildings.
After she passed away, her children sold the house (that my GF built) to a NYC doctor for next to nothing by todays market. I'll still have my memories... bklynreefdude 06-19-2008, 10:18 AM Yes way! We love the Hudson River Valley. My Wife grew up around Kingston and New Paltz and we were just up there this past weekend. Did you ever eat at a restaurant named the Mountain Brauhaus? Kim's Mom worked there as a teenager and it's still there just outside of New Paltz. We go to Bear Mountain every year for our Anniversary so we have fond memories too. Small World.

Matt
No on the Mountain Brauhaus, but it sounds like a riot. Our family was always travelling from Rochester to Highland Falls via Binghamton (stopping at my father's favorite Greek diner-on-steroids called "The Spot"), so we never made it as far north as New Paltz. I did have one friend who taught Art at SUNY New Paltz, and another that recently finished graduate studies in Sculpture at Bard college near Kingston.
My Italian Grandmother always kept us well fed (of course), so we rarely went into Highland Falls proper except to help run errands, go to church on Sunday, or to buy balsa wood gliders or more bb's. Sometimes we would go to the West Point Museum.
It was great to wake up on beautiful autumn days to the distant sound of trains and tug boats on the Hudson. I think I'm gonna cry... Sheol 06-27-2008, 04:43 AM Sorry, but I have to counter your post because you are Ducks fans! :p

We live in Cincinnati. The drive to Detroit is about 4-5 hours. It's not bad, but we definitely have to reserve our trips to weekends.
