ok i know not everyone has time to do something like this but i was thinking it might be cool to have a thread deadicated to corals and fish identifications. for example.
anyone who wants can come in and input the corals they have had experience with how they grew, under what lighting. and just the info they know about that coral in general.. and maybe if they have time and a camera post a picture of there coral.. and then if anyone has any questions or just looking for new corals they can come here and get the info. it might take awhile for it to grow but im sure there are some people that would be willing to join in..
good idea or bad?
its actually a great idea, and somethign i started in the early days of TR. but due to the amount of time i discontinued it, and put efforts into ReefPedia (http://www.reefpedia.com/).
check out this as an example

i think this is a great project and there is more time and effort going into this. So back in the day, i made the decision to support this site rather than re-invent the wheel

Do you want to leave it at that or maybe make our own? i like the idea of it being here. That being said i would love TR to be a one stop shop, however time and people participating are another issue.. i would be willing to list all of my corals and fish but im not sure everyone would..

another idea is to add your info, pictures, details into our handy-dandy "TR Web Links". We've tried to start up an information catalog there...

what was the reason of it not working? just people not wanting to help or everyone not having the needed time to do something like that?

What is not working?
The link database is here (http://www.talkingreef.com/forums/local_links.php). We just gotta keep adding to it. :)
As far as this site bring a one stop shop.... I personally LOVE how we interact with other sites and support sites like Reefpedia and Project DIBS. Too many reef sites get huffy and puffy when u mention another reef board and it really shouldn't be like that. Bottom Line: we are all here to learn no matter what website the info comes from. With that said, I would love to build the TR site with an extensive database and plenty of information. Keep up the threads and posts!!
Like Rob said, "If you build it, they will come!"
