View Full Version : Signatures? Small Fry 08-04-2006, 01:47 AM Just a small suggestion i'd appreciate, i started on AP.ca where they have a rule that you put you whole systems stats in your signature, for many different perposes.
I'd be interested in that for this site just so we can see what people have, and if they give sugggestions what size of a system they'f be basing it on if they say "in my tank..."
It can also help in any problem type times, cuz we can just look at their sig and see, oh, thats what they have, so there's no need to say "before i can help you, what system are you running" IMHO it can prove to be a time saver and in crucial times can save lives.
I'm not saying it has to be inforced (it can get stupid on AP quite honestly). But it just might be a good idea to try out on TR
Thnx for reading :D fat walrus 08-04-2006, 02:17 AM i hear what u are saying. however.... many members here had just such listing before we all began to put up a picture of our tank, or pets. the best way to get an exchange of information is when everyone is having fun and willing to participate. having all that info requires constant update and constant vigilance for all members, it may create an environment of excessive technical cumberance and sheer boredome. one thing that makes TR stands out is the feeling of family togetherness and rapid response by these family members. in time, we all know each other and what each other have, isn't that much more personal? yes, i understand, actually if you view someones profile there are fields there for all that information. they are not "enforced fields but there for use.
people are more than welcome to add that info to there signature if they choose. if the community deems that it should be require, then i will set it in place.
as walrus eluded to this is a community. there are only a few things that i enforce, and for those i have reasons. for everything else its democracy, if the community as a whole deems it beneficial to all, then we will proceed.
if you want, start a poll, should system info be required in your signature. "required" being the key point, as right now its available if people want to do that, but not required. veriann 08-04-2006, 10:28 AM yes, i understand, actually if you view someones profile there are fields there for all that information. they are not "enforced fields but there for use. people are more than welcome to add that info to there signature if they choose. if the community deems that it should be require, then i will set it in place.
i think id eat my nori elsewhere if rules are steered in that dirrection

and ive broken almost all of them right rob!

try not to be an "american stick in the mud" small_fry :all the magnifiers in the world couldn't reveal my setup & gear, cause i dont have one...;)! but with the knowledge in this brain, i could stop the matrix! so its applicable to those like to display their long winded lists JustDavidP 08-04-2006, 10:58 AM Okay... I think this is a good idea but yes, one you can not strictly enforce. However, we could highly suggest it when replying to questions. I did update mine. I may put in more; stopping short of putting out "a long winded list". ;)
One other thing I learned from other boards is that if you have TOO much in your siggy, people don't look at it. They want the "headlines" and not the news :) Not to point at anyone, but excessive graphics also cause some to skip over signatures.
Dave veriann 08-04-2006, 11:11 AM yeah, i only look at my signature so i know im still too toxic to get better acquainted with myself:roll: JustDavidP 08-04-2006, 11:42 AM yeah, i only look at my signature so i know im still too toxic to get better acquainted with myself:roll:
:rotfl: Seriously, they must have much more "fun" vitamins down undah.. where do you come up with such stuff?
D veriann 08-04-2006, 12:27 PM staring at long winded lists, i have plenty of time to think:D JustDavidP 08-04-2006, 01:23 PM Touche' ;) veriann 08-04-2006, 05:39 PM feelie:heart: Small Fry 08-07-2006, 01:49 PM try not to be an "american stick in the mud" small_fry
american?? couldn't do that if i tried :p
but i do get what your saying about the community, and i do feel the same, way, as i already know alot of peoples seups and i think it was V that said it makes it much more impersonal or something like that, and i whole heartedly agree, just a suggestion that i was throwing out there :D
But just for the future when the site gets bigger (it will) there may come a point where there are too many people to know off by heart what there systems consist of.
But until then, this works :D
btw i was never talking about this being a RULE (!!!) just something various members could do if they feel like it, like i see dave did.
But i've seen what this can do as a rule, particularly in bad ways, it got to a point on my othr site where the admins would not reply if someone needed help if it wasnt in their sig, they would first put "go to (link) and then update your signature, then you may ask your question"
don't know about you, but i'd never want anything like that on this site :p gwen_o_lyn 08-07-2006, 06:51 PM But i've seen what this can do as a rule, particularly in bad ways, it got to a point on my othr site where the admins would not reply if someone needed help if it wasnt in their sig, they would first put "go to (link) and then update your signature, then you may ask your question"

That's crazy!
"ummm excuse me sir, I don't care if your fish are dieing, but if you update your signature to what we require *don't forget blood samples of first born child,* I can offer 50 possibilities on why your fish are dieing"
:rotfl: veriann 08-07-2006, 10:50 PM yes but its the morons who stay there that baffles me yes but its the morons who stay there that baffles me

THUS, i am here now :D Small Fry 08-09-2006, 06:58 PM *don't forget blood samples of first born child,*
THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!! lol... yea, i think the info can be helpful, but i dont think i will ever make it a requirement, let alone help people (or not) based on that.. Geez... veriann 02-08-2008, 09:14 AM so much for the glory of rome, i find it fun after reading all your drib drab threads lol http://www.alexander-oberg.de/smileys/outtahere.gif - just to sit & stare at the who's online function. its amazing what spyder bot 20 is looking at, take this thread for example!
