This just appeared on a rock in my tank. I know it looks like aiptasia, but its "foot" is hard like a rock. Actually, the whole thing is other than the tenticles. Its not mobile either, its kinda fused to the rock its growing out of. If you touch it, it retracts into its base. I never noticed it because its facing the back of the tank.
Soooo, what is it

looks like aptasia to me..
does the base look hollow, any way its growing on an old tube hole?

I took this one with my phone because my camera wont zoom in far enough. I make it retract so you could see the base. I dont think its an anemone growing on a coral skeleton, because the whole thing (base included) wasnt there three weeds ago. So whatever it is, its part of this base in the picture. The center seems to be the mouth, and the tenticles come out all around the center, and around the outer edge of the base.

my vote is still aptasia, but thats only based on what i see in those images.

not sure what else it could be, based on the skeletal base you are explaining

Its the only one in the tank. That part you are looking at in the pic above its the base, and its hard as a rock other than in between the little white lines. Its soft and fleshy there and in the center.

I need to borrow a camera and get a really good pic of it. The only thing i can say it looks like when its retracted is a plate coral. I know its not, but im trying to paint a mental picture since my camera is so bad.

I have a Kodak Easy Share. Its ok for pics of kids, or car shows. But it doesnt even have a setting for macro, so its useless for tank and tank critter pics
