seeing how successful the thread started by wwest about our user names and the amount that so many members learn about each other........it seems the next question would be to tell about our avatars. i'll start off with mine..........i was searching for walrus pictures but could not find one i was happy with. my wife found the picture i am currently using and put it into my profile after i had fallen asleep at the computer. did she choose correctly?

Thirty years ago I asked a graphic artist friend of mine to come up with a new logo for my business. He asked me a bunch of questions, one of which was, "What's your favorite fish?". I answered, the Moorish Idol. My avatar is a small version of what he came up with. I've used it or a variation ever since. If you've been to my web site you've seen the current version I'm using. Here it is.......

When I designed our house three years ago, I decided to personalize our pool by having my current business logo (see post above) made into a mosaic and placed on the bottom of the pool. Here's a pic I took today of how it turned out.

I read this on the somewere on the web

Date Rank # Opponent W/L Score Record Attend.
Oct. 15 / 8 Penn State* W 27-25 4-3 , 2-2 111,249

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman wide receiver Mario Manningham (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding HS) caught his second touchdown of the game with no time on the clock to lift the University of Michigan football team to a 27-25 victory over previously unbeaten No. 8 Penn State on Saturday (Oct. 15) at Michigan Stadium in front of 111,249 fans. Trailing 25-21 with 53 seconds on the clock, the Wolverines drove 53 yards for the game-winning score. On fourth-and-4 from the Penn State 10-yard line, sophomore quarterback Chad Henne (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson HS) fired the ball to Manningham on a slant from the right side in the end zone as time ran out to give the Wolverines the victory.

I enjoy the hobby for what it does for me but it kills me to see what people do no matter what you try and tell them. You can try to teach people but there are always those who don't care what you say. Those who listen have success and stay in the hobby, the other 90% just rush and shoot themselves in the foot. The store I work in is actually pretty expensive when it comes to inverts and corals but I am working on making the store more hobbiest friendly. This is the store www.bbpetstop.com

Astrivian
08-04-2006, 07:20 PM
Oh no...how do i explain this one. My avatar is the Abaca, the symbol of Astrivianism and Religous Spiritualism. I could write for a long long time on this so i will be quick. If you saw The Da Vinci Code, you should know what two interlaced triangles, one pointing up, one down, mean: the unification of male and female. The square and the circle are from Gnosticism and Alchemy, and imply the unification of heaven (circle) and earth (square). In alchemical terms it was called "Squaring the circle" which was a symbol of the Lapis Philosophorm (Philosopher's Stone).

As for your next likely question: i can't say what Astrivianism is unless you ask me directly and privatly (sorry, it is against our traditions to evangalize).

Oh, and big ten shmig ten! GO HOKIES! (that's a seriously buff turkey...yum yum)

Dana,

My favorite Shamu story is from when my son was 5. We were visiting Sea World of Ohio and all he wanted was to pet Shamu. It was his birthday and we were able to get him in the Shamu Show! He was in seventh heaven. After giving Shamu several commands and feeding him some fish the trainer said "OK, now do this" and wiped her hands on her wetsuit. Our son wiped his fishy hands down the front of his shirt and then smelled so bad that we bought him a new shirt!

Danamck
08-17-2006, 08:43 PM
Great story. I bet he will never forget that day. But I thought Shamu was in the San Diego Sea World. Are you telling me there are more than one Shamu? Say it isn't so - I would be devastated!

My son (13) wants to become a marine biologist. Each summer he spends a week at a program at Seymore Marine Lab in Santa Cruz. Part of the program is working with dolphins, seals and seal lions. How come kids get to have all the fun?

CarmieJo
