no fish in your pond? heres an idea. put some guppies in the water with some lilys. hopefully the pump dont suck up the guppies and in appreciation for a great new home, the guppies will eat any mosquitos larva in the water. the lilys should provide enough oxygen for the guppys

lillies can prove cover/shelter for the fish also, birds are a pain in the neck for outside fish with nowhere to go! drain guard will handle anything from getting sucked into the pump vortex. i love drain guard, u can use it everywhere

does it get cold enough where u are to pose a problem dav?

if the pond is only small in width, i found a trip to the camping store to pick up flex poles to spead/bend over the pond with sheet plastic provides extra walmth during the colder months

dreams,

Beautiful, very nicely done pond and garden. Hmmmm, dreams beautiful, too! :agree: Husband smart to be dreams' best friend. And then there's this....
carmie, i know....some times i feel like the old lady of the group....lol.....but then i remind myself...with age comes wisdom:-)
Ahh yes, dreams, with age comes wisdom but, if at 42 you are the old lady of the group then, at 68, I'm the petrified old Master filled with wisdom to bestow upon the young and my youth is but a fond memory. :rotfl:

JustDavidP,

Fine looking frag you got there, David. Pond looks great.

I'm not sure you've seen my pond here on TR so here it is. We had it dug out to use the soil for raising the foundation of the house above flood level. http://www.theculturedreef.com/12A91C~1.GIF Two years ago when hurricanes Frances and Jean blew through here our neighbor had flood waters lapping at their foundation. Our property was flooded too but, the house was high and dry about two feet above the water.

It's not beautiful in the sense of landscaping but it draws some neat critters.

Here's a great white heron, the great blues come in too.

And, what would FL be without our alligators.

Here's the picture from the patio door to the pond out back.

Ya'll come on down and sit a spell. We'll cook up a mean BBQ and tap a coolie for ya.

Hahaha, Well of course. Any of TR friends that find themselves in FL are welcome to stop by for a few days of RR. You can go "splish splash" in the pool, we'll BBQ on the grill and tip a coolie together.

That shot of the pool was taken before we moved in. We now have patio furniture, plants and a mermaid by the pool. I'd post a pic of the mermaid but don't want to cause a stir amoung'st those that oppose bare breasted artwork. Oh my, what's that over their? :o :rotfl: My sister-in-law actually asked me to put a bikini top on her when her and the family came. Her reason was, because her teenage son David (13) was beginning to notice "those kind of things". I said to her, "Thank God he is". Reluctantly, we covered her. David and I were on the patio alone and I asked him, "What do you think of our Mermaid"? He asked, "Why does she have a bikini on"? I told him his mother insisted. He did this  !!! My wife and I decided no more bikini top for the Mermaid.

I did offer an invite in the post above. That was serious. If you are coming to FL gives us a shout and stop by. Hey, I got an idea, I could host the very first TR sponsored frag trading, coolie swigging, BBQing pool party. How does that sound, Rob?

Sounds like a plan to me :). My 17 year old, who has only had his license a month, told me last night that he thought he'd jump in the car and run down to Miami to see a friend. Miami is probably 900 miles from Raleigh. Talk about testing the boundaries!!! My husband is away on a business trip and so I had to be the bearer of bad news, "NO way Jose!"

hey Amphibious, what size bikini does your mermaid take? hehe.....just curious.......and maybe desparate.....lol.

I know it seems as if I just 'dissapeared' and well.. I sort of did. :) In any case, a dollar short...day late..but I'm getting back to my posts.

No.. I have no problems with cold weather Veriann. Koi and goldfish are "cold fish" originating from areas that do, in fact, get below freezing. My pond is 3 feet deep and when the weather gets below 50F, the fish go into a hibernation or suspended animation. They do not eat, and merely hover at the bottom of the pond and wait for Spring. I've never lost a fish in the pond. I've lost fish OUT OF THE POND to birds, snakes etc. but they always winter over.

The poor frogs...do not! Blech!
