View Full Version : green clown goby missing dreams 06-15-2006, 01:47 PM last thursday i added a green clown goby to my tank.......he/she was hugging the rocks in the front of the tank for a few hrs, seemed to acclimate well....then, hid......i haven't seen him/her since.....
how long do i give for him/her to show up?.....or, do i assume, at this point, he didn't make it? fat walrus 06-15-2006, 05:09 PM about 2 weeks is about the max from my experience. dreams 06-15-2006, 09:25 PM thanks walrus.....i hope he/she is okay in there.....never had a fish disapear like that fat walrus 06-15-2006, 09:41 PM they are really hard to see, and being so small, they could be anywhere. look closely, even behind heaters. i hope he is still around. never forget possiblilty of mantis shrimp. dreams 06-16-2006, 11:54 PM never forget possiblilty of mantis shrimp
oh!...please don't say that.....i think he is gone.....i was moving some of the rock around for a pipe coral and he didn't come out....unless he is in the pvc below all the rock....also checked the overflow, no luck gwen_o_lyn 06-17-2006, 12:02 AM Sorry to hear Wendy :( fat walrus 06-17-2006, 12:13 AM never say never. i'm on your side dreams. veriann 06-17-2006, 12:56 AM sorry to hear one's MIA
worst case if a no show is to keep an eye on the paremeters. i dont want to say it but u might get a spike:( Bernie 06-17-2006, 09:53 AM I had the same experience with my green clown goby. I just assumed he was underneath some rocks or maybe crushed with me moving stuff around and then one morning i see a shadow in my fuge... sure enough there he was :fish: in the return portion of my fuge... i'm sure that was one scary ride over the overflow and down the pipes...
so don't give up just yet... veriann 06-17-2006, 10:37 AM I had the same experience with my green clown goby. that swirly vortex of terror____of course it is!
just like the EAC dude!:o dreams 06-17-2006, 11:26 AM thanks guys....i ahven't given up yet....there are a lot of hiding places in my tank
no shift in water parameters....but then, he is/was a pretty small fish in a pretty big tank
walrus, i explained what a mantis shrimp is to my hubby & i thought he was gunna die of a heartattak.....don't think he realized that you can get the bad along w/ the good....lol dreams 06-17-2006, 11:39 AM oh, i want to add this, because it is kinda important as an informative thing fo us newbies
i did not QT this little guy, so by not doing that, i really have no way of knowing what happened to him
he seemed fine after the acclimation and all of my other fish are fine....but, by not QTing, there really is no way for me to pinpoint what happened to him, if he is indeed gone......whether he was sick or something in the tank got him
if i woulda QTed, i would have been able to eliminate at least one possiblity....my bad veriann 06-17-2006, 11:59 AM they are cheap QT's! simple setups dreams dreams 06-17-2006, 12:07 PM veriann....the truth is that i have a QT.......i just didn't do it.....i figured "clown gobies are hardy little fish, not a biggie".....i was wrong veriann 06-17-2006, 01:01 PM im old school, dont worry about my comments about QTing!;)ive had to many careless losses in my time, the last one hit me so hard it reshaped my world! 45cm & still a baby! it does stuff to u when u loss fish of this magnitude with so much more potential! pham411 06-17-2006, 06:43 PM i just added a green clown goby a few days ago also. sadly yesterday i actually seen a pesty mantis shrimp living in my tank grab him and dragged him into a cave in the rocks. that little punk, ive been trying to get him out for 4 months. dreams 06-17-2006, 06:53 PM veriann, i didn't think you were off base, in the first place:-)
pham, i don't think it is a mantis or anything like that, i have a yellow clwn goby that has been in the tank for a couple of weeks now and he is fine....as are all the rest of my fish veriann 06-17-2006, 07:41 PM maybe its time someone did some proper research in light that mantis might love the colour green! by the look of it it seems to be something that happens when this combo presents itself in the domestic aquarium fat walrus 06-18-2006, 02:36 AM maybe its time someone did some proper research in light that mantis might love the colour green! by the look of it it seems to be something that happens when this combo presents itself in the domestic aquarium
different colors register different temperatures....and vision is based on temp...... dreams 06-18-2006, 11:27 AM yippy!!!!!

     veriann 06-18-2006, 12:50 PM hey, thats great, where was he hiding? he went out for a double quarter pounder & forgot to tell someone he was leaving!lol dreams 06-18-2006, 02:09 PM LOL!...he is hiding in the rock....he isn't coming all the way out, bu is perching and looking out
i'm so happy the little cutie made it wildeone 06-18-2006, 03:20 PM Good for you dreams! Doesn't it feel good! fat walrus 06-18-2006, 10:01 PM all right. great news. dreams 06-18-2006, 10:33 PM thanks guys...

now, i'm hoping he comes out soon to eat:-) CarmieJo 06-18-2006, 11:35 PM Please keep me posted. fat walrus 06-18-2006, 11:38 PM keep us all posted. dreams 06-21-2006, 06:08 PM is it possible this litle guy is eating pods?...cause he still won't come out and swim......he isn't getting as spooked when i look at him, but still just perching....i have tried to shoot some food in his direction, but doesn't seem to eat any fat walrus 06-21-2006, 06:14 PM what kind of food are you using? dreams 06-21-2006, 06:18 PM my homemade food....it has a litle bt of everything in there....misis, brine, blood worms, cod, shrimp, halibut, clams...etc dreams 06-21-2006, 06:21 PM my little yellow guy, birdie, love the homemade food fat walrus 06-21-2006, 06:21 PM try cyclop-eze or similar until he begins to accept prepared food. that works usually for me. dreams 06-21-2006, 06:25 PM k...i'll pick some up tonight...thanks, walrus
i can see the tiny crevise he is hiding in....should i try to shoot as close to there as possible.....i've been trying to give him a little space fat walrus 06-21-2006, 06:27 PM i find the frozen version to work better than dry. dreams 06-21-2006, 06:37 PM k...i found a LFS that has it:-) dreams 06-22-2006, 10:30 AM
well, we coundn't get to the LFS last night...hubby didn't get home til after 10....but....
this morning, i slowly shot some food down to him & he grabbed a huge piece & ate it....yippy!!!!! dreams 06-22-2006, 05:00 PM update:
i coaxed him out w/ some bloodworms.....he is very skinny...which might explain the hiding....he may feel vulnerable
so, the plan:
i will keep feeding him separately from my other little guys......a variety of food w/ added vitamins 3-4 times a day...when he starts to plump up, i will cut back
hopefully, the feedings will help him feel more comfortable & get him healthy enough to come out of hiding
on the side.....birdie is now started to perch close to where he is hiding nd watching.....think he now realizes he is in the tank....hope that is not a problem fat walrus 06-22-2006, 09:35 PM make sure you use fatty acids and mineral supplement. it is hard to put weight on finicky feeders. i'm so happy for you.....one more battle won! dreams 06-23-2006, 04:51 PM will, do
think we are doing okay...he comes right up to the baster, now...only problem i am having is w/ my skunk shrimp trying to get the food.....but i am able to get him a good bit before they realize what is going on
oh!...i named him/her sweetpea:p fat walrus 06-23-2006, 07:08 PM haha, sweetpea. clever. my current one is called DOLB (day old lima bean). veriann 06-24-2006, 12:34 PM haha, sweetpea. clever. my current one is called DOLB (day old lima bean).
