last thursday i added a green clown goby to my tank.......he/she was hugging the rocks in the front of the tank for a few hrs, seemed to acclimate well....then, hid......i haven't seen him/her since.....

how long do i give for him/her to show up?.....or, do i assume, at this point, he didn't make it?

they are really hard to see, and being so small, they could be anywhere. look closely, even behind heaters. i hope he is still around. never forget possiblilty of mantis shrimp.

never forget possiblilty of mantis shrimp

oh!...please don't say that.....i think he is gone.....i was moving some of the rock around for a pipe coral and he didn't come out....unless he is in the pvc below all the rock....also checked the overflow, no luck

I had the same experience with my green clown goby. I just assumed he was underneath some rocks or maybe crushed with me moving stuff around and then one morning i see a shadow in my fuge... sure enough there he was :fish: in the return portion of my fuge... i'm sure that was one scary ride over the overflow and down the pipes...

so don't give up just yet...

thanks guys....i ahven't given up yet....there are a lot of hiding places in my tank

no shift in water parameters....but then, he is/was a pretty small fish in a pretty big tank

walrus, i explained what a mantis shrimp is to my hubby & i thought he was gunna die of a heartattak.....don't think he realized that you can get the bad along w/ the good....lol

oh, i want to add this, because it is kinda important as an informative thing fo us newbies

i did not QT this little guy, so by not doing that, i really have no way of knowing what happened to him

he seemed fine after the acclimation and all of my other fish are fine....but, by not QTing, there really is no way for me to pinpoint what happened to him, if he is indeed gone......whether he was sick or something in the tank got him

if i woulda QTed, i would have been able to eliminate at least one possiblity....my bad

veriann

they are cheap QT's! simple setups dreams

veriann....the truth is that i have a QT.......i just didn't do it.....i figured "clown gobies are hardy little fish, not a biggie".....i was wrong

im old school, dont worry about my comments about QTing!;)ive had to many careless losses in my time, the last one hit me so hard it reshaped my world! 45cm & still a baby! it does stuff to u when u loss fish of this magnitude with so much more potential!

i just added a green clown goby a few days ago also. sadly yesterday i actually seen a pesty mantis shrimp living in my tank grab him and dragged him into a cave in the rocks. that little punk, ive been trying to get him out for 4 months.

veriann, i didn't think you were off base, in the first place:-)

pham, i don't think it is a mantis or anything like that, i have a yellow clwn goby that has been in the tank for a couple of weeks now and he is fine....as are all the rest of my fish

maybe its time someone did some proper research in light that mantis might love the colour green! by the look of it it seems to be something that happens when this combo presents itself in the domestic aquarium

different colors register different temperatures....and vision is based on temp......

try cyclop-eze or similar until he begins to accept prepared food. that works usually for me.

i can see the tiny crevise he is hiding in....should i try to shoot as close to there as possible.....i've been trying to give him a little space

this morning, i slowly shot some food down to him & he grabbed a huge piece & ate it....yippy!!!!!

update:

i coaxed him out w/ some bloodworms.....he is very skinny...which might explain the hiding....he may feel vulnerable

so, the plan:

i will keep feeding him separately from my other little guys......a variety of food w/ added vitamins 3-4 times a day...when he starts to plump up, i will cut back

hopefully, the feedings will help him feel more comfortable & get him healthy enough to come out of hiding

on the side.....birdie is now started to perch close to where he is hiding nd watching.....think he now realizes he is in the tank....hope that is not a problem

fat walrus

make sure you use fatty acids and mineral supplement. it is hard to put weight on finicky feeders. i'm so happy for you.....one more battle won!

dreams
06-23-2006, 04:51 PM
will, do

think we are doing okay...he comes right up to the baster, now...only problem i am having is w/ my skunk shrimp trying to get the food.....but i am able to get him a good bit before they realize what is going on

oh!...i named him/her sweetpea:p

fat walrus
