here ya go Adam, you wanted more invert questions, show us the magic and tell be about this little guy.

i have more images of a much higher resolution. if they are needed, i will post them

i found it in my old fuge.
it survived 3 days with no heater or light.
and its about 1 inch long from the tips of the claws to tail

looks like some kind of pistol shrimp. maybe our resident Marine Bio dude could figure that one one. I am particularly looking at its claws. real interesting.

yes, i thought about that after posting...
when back down to look at it more, and thought.. hey that's looks like...

but was i already made the post, so i figured i would wait and see what others say..

it came as a hitchhiker, and I'm just curious what I'm going to do with it...

put it in my display, in my fuge, take it to the LFS, setup a small tank for it.. that's why i want to get more info on what it is, so i can make my decision

well from the single larger claw i am inclined to begin with a pistol shrimp.

but i dont have any of my books at work (geologists with invert books ha!)

if you think its something else rob, by all means do tell.

okay...I'll have to charge you.....

It will grow to about 2.5 cm (!!!), so because of it's small size it's not thought to be of any danger to other species in the tank.

It's also NOT a symbiotic shrimp (such as a pistol shrimp). They recommend at last 50 liter tank and it will eat Artemia, Mysis, flake and frozen food.
They come from the Red Sea and Madagaskar (Marty!! Alex!!!) to Taiwan and Australia, as well as the central pacific islands in the Golf up to Columbia and California.

Sex differences: The first two pairs of swim legs (?) of the males are gonopoden. These are easy to see, since they are longer than the other swim legs. The female has normal swim legs.

hope that helps!!

lmao... yea, can i eat it or not....

thanks christi, that helps..
i think i will let it live in my fuge.
it was in my old fuge for, who knows how long.

i was having a heck of a time finding any other info on it other than that German site.

But, Rob - it sounds like it's a harmless little guy. I wouldn't worry about it too much. How did you catch it anyway?

Rob

well, when i was looking in my old fuge it caught my eye..
so i grabbed my small net and caught it..
it really didnt struggle much at all, was pretty easy actually.. :)

the only other info i have is that there are 3 sub species.....

and that it comes up in reports where they simply notice its presence in areas of sampling.

so based on your info adam, what christi translated, and the fact that it was in my fuge before with no negative effects.
it seems that a good choice would be to just allow it to go free in my fuge
