Ok I know the title says Pulsing xenia but what Im really looking for is the name of the smaller version of this that looks very simialr but is very short and wont take over the tank. My LFS has some but I can not remember the name for the life of me. I think he called it a palm xenia or something like that, it is silver in color and pulses but is very small like less then 1 inch tall and doesnt grow very fast. Any ideas?

I think your right walrus... Pom poms sound familiar. Anyone had any experience with them? Do they do OK in SPS tanks? (Sorry Rob haven't learned the correct names for them yet :( but theres SO much information I'm trying to learn) I am thinking I will have a tank with mostly SPS some Ricordia and maybe if its possible 1 leather. Does this sound OK? I don't think you can have allot of leather and SPS in the same tank right? Sorry for being so vague but I'm still learning.

Do they look like these? if so i think these are pom pom xenias. thats what the guy at the store said anyways lol.but i started off with one stock in my big tank. that was around a month ago. right now i have 4 stocks total in that tank. mine spread quick. im not sure if these are pom pom but if they are they spread fast.. just my 2 cents.. :mrgreen:

Its hard to tell by that picture, the LFS had them in a Nano tank and each stock was about a little bigger then a quarter, they have had them in that nano display tank for about a month that I remember and havent gotten any bigger.
He also said that they are slightly rare and he doesnt get them in much if at all.
Also he said people try and give away the Pulsing Xenia beacause it grows like a weed.

As far as apperience they look like your picture, a sliver white in color but I cant not tell size in that picture and its very blue so I cant tell color either.

they are about an inch high maybe inch and a quarter. i cant speak for the ones in there nano, but from what i have read and heard people talk about. xenias only spread if the water is to there likeing. also these are kinda pink in water but look more purple outside of the water. i dont know if this helps either but in southeastern ohio a inch and a half stock like the one on the left at the LFS goes for about $10...

i can't see wwest's picture too well. but xenias in general do grow rapidly if fed well, most hobbyist that are more advanced tend to avoid xenias. the pom-pom type do grow slower, but non are really expensive. xenias are extremely difficult to ship but once settled down, they are prolific. years ago, xenias were a sought after coral because so few survived shipment, but now with so many successful hobbyist forced to harvest their xenias, their status and value has decline. it is a great coral to gain experience with because they are sensitive to sudden changes in water parameters. i know some hobbyists that keep them almost as an alarm system for sudden changes.

Yea I have seen the ones at the LFS after they do a water change and the go pretty flat.
I am kinda afraid to get them now though... I dont want something that grows like a week because I will have no were to put it.:eek:

if you stay on top of it and confine it to one area, it can still remain a beautiful part of the tank. make sure you are willing to control it.

the pom pom zenia should not be as problematic as far as rapid growth.
