View Full Version : purple tipped staghorn dreams 06-02-2006, 10:07 PM how far away does this need to placed from other corals? gwen_o_lyn 06-02-2006, 10:22 PM what kind of corals would be near it? fat walrus 06-02-2006, 10:24 PM consider room to grow, and think of who the neighbors are. a lot of lps have longer reach than sps. dreams 06-02-2006, 10:37 PM where i have it placed now, it is about 8/9 inches from the flower pot......that entire side of the tank will only have sps....acros, monti cap (maybe some encrusting montipora) & Pocillopora.....zoos on the sand below
on the "ricordia island" is where i placed the frowgspawn...about 6 inches above the rics dreams 06-02-2006, 10:47 PM how big does a branching type coral get? they can get big, but it takes a long time.
an inch or two away generally is fine, although it the other coral is real aggressive, you might need more. fat walrus 06-03-2006, 12:55 AM your placement sounds fine. just keep an eye on the flowerpot, they can really extend a long way. with the sps, they are generally not that agressive, but can extend to the point of blocking light. keep in mind that you generally need more room for lps. sps tend to work their growth direction easier than lps...at least in my experience. dreams 06-03-2006, 07:50 PM thank you much!:-) dreams 06-04-2006, 08:53 PM i was finally able to get a pic...my camera is acting up, bad

any ideas? fat walrus 06-15-2006, 09:15 PM what kind of lights did you have? and what kind of light did it come out of? how about the height that it was kept at? dreams 06-15-2006, 09:22 PM it was under fluorescent....i have T5s....it was in the middle, i had it in the middle, moved it to the sand for now
polyp extension is still good fat walrus 06-15-2006, 09:45 PM good idea. it did sound like bleaching. were those flourescents VHO? can't imagine anyone keeping accro under standard flourescent. dreams 06-15-2006, 10:48 PM i really don't know, i just looked up and saw fluorenscents dreams 06-15-2006, 10:50 PM oh, it was in a softy tank....the only sps in there dreams 06-26-2006, 12:46 PM update:
staghorn is getting it's color back:-) gwen_o_lyn 06-26-2006, 12:48 PM Glad to hear Wendy! CarmieJo 06-26-2006, 06:59 PM Good deal! fat walrus 06-26-2006, 07:02 PM good work. dreams 06-30-2006, 06:41 PM another issue....my yellow clown goby has decided to make this guy home & he has stayed retracted all day.....will he adjust or should i move him?
he was hanging out on the monti cap, until i moved it...the cap didn't seem to mind.....i could put the cap in its place veriann 06-30-2006, 10:04 PM lol, its like surrendering to the roman army fat walrus 06-30-2006, 10:17 PM from my experience, the staghorn will get used to it. give it a couple days and see. clown gobies usually don't constantly move when they perch in coral, so the corals usually get used to it. dreams 06-30-2006, 10:43 PM veriann, yes it is....i have admitted defeat....lol
walrus, thank ya! |
