View Full Version : Play Sand? wwest 05-29-2006, 07:44 PM my question is, We only have a lowes around here and i went to find southdown sand to do a 10gal reef, and the only sand that lowes has is white playsand, i think it quickcrete sand but it doesnt say southdown anywhere on the bag. Will this sand work or should i keep looking? dreams 05-29-2006, 07:45 PM it will say manufactured by old castle wwest 05-29-2006, 07:49 PM thanks dreams.. :-) dreams 05-29-2006, 07:52 PM your welcome:-) fat walrus 05-29-2006, 07:54 PM never QuickCrete. thats a cement compound. gwen_o_lyn 05-29-2006, 07:54 PM I've heard that there is playsand at Wal-Mart that works- you just want to do the vinegar test to be sure. I know the Southdown/Old Castle stuff can be hard to find. wwest 05-29-2006, 08:30 PM quickcrete is the name of the company. not quick drying concrete.
What is the vinegar test? :-) gwen_o_lyn 05-29-2006, 08:41 PM You can test for calcium content by putting a teaspoonful in a pint of vinegar, put the lid on and shake well for about 2 minutes, most, if not all should dissolve,. Allow it to stand for a few hours and check back, if it all dissolves, you have a winner. wwest 05-29-2006, 09:54 PM thank you very much gwen_o_lyn you have saved me around $26 lol :-) gwen_o_lyn 05-29-2006, 10:00 PM yay!! i'm still trying Prez. nobody has ante up yet.
typical excuses:
1)i've already given at the office.
2)Rob who?
3)i don't care what u say about Rob, just get the @$^% out of here!
under these circumstances, it has been difficult if not outright hazardous to collect funds for the ROB FAN CLUB. i suggest changing the name of the club to FREE STUFF but allow all contributions to be still made to CASH, c/o Fat Walrus.......
