Ok. I had a tiny nano tank with a tiny dual bulb and the mushrooms would reach up like a button and shape towards the light like a goblet. In my 20G nano the mushrooms always just lay out flat, no extending/upward reaching activity. I have seen mushrooms do the same in different tanks at different LFS. If they are reaching out, is is because they are not close enough/getting enough of the light source?

Yes, they are reaching for more light. Some will also cup as a sort of rudimentary feeding response, but if they do it all the time, they're stretching for light.

Great. I guess it gives me a way 1. to know if the LFS lighting is adequate and 2. that my lighting is good.
