Was not really sure where to post all this, but here goes.

A few weeks ago I posted asking questions on how to siphon a 30g to a 20g sump, after researching for a week or so, I decided to drill the tank my self. I purchased a 1 1/4 drill bit off ebay for $14, 2 10' 5/8 pvc, a few 90degree elbows, acrylic glue, pvc glue, ball valve, and a "project box" from radio shack. I cut the box in half, glued it to the top corner of my tank, then drilled 3 holes in the glass. I then proceeded to place the pvc in the holes, filled it with a abnormal amount of acrylic glue waited for it to dry and then filled it with water.

To my surprise.. and my wife's too.. it did not leak. I placed it on my office desk, plumbed all the pipe and added salt, sand, live rock, and a powerhead.

Here are some pictures, and yes I know the desk is very cluttered, its my work desk, and no I can't move the cat.

This is just above the sump, with the 3 5/8" pvc from the overflow box, and the one return on the right.

Best shot I can get of the sump, it is the front view, with a remora protein skimmer on the left. Just behind it in the center of tank is a bunch of scrub things I found at a local store, I think they are used for kitchen cleaning, but they are a hardish plastic material, that seems to be a good media to use :P not sure.

This is the over flow box that I made from a radioshack project box, I drilled holes along the top for the water to flow in, and the 3 holes in the glass are 1 1/4" witha 1" pvc to a 5/8" pvc.

The mess...

Oh yeah I ahve a youtube thing about it too I just started..

Most everything you see, I either made, repaired or rebuilt in some way or another, I made the wood canopy's from oak I had laying around and the desk was meant to be a computer only desk.. but..

Once my basement is finished this tank will be the starter tank for my 120g I have going into the wall.
Anyway I am by no means a expert in what I am doing, I just do it, and It was not that hard to drill glass or make the items I needed, hope this helps someone :P

Yeah I basically got lucky with that, the water level stays about 1" from the top of my tank which is perfect for me. I drilled 3 rows of holes in the box across the top, the water only goes as high as the second row, and only uses the 3rd row when you first turn it all on. I actully have a lid for the box but Im afraid to put it on just yet.

see., thats using your noodle. all it takes is to give it a go, & your bigger & bolder for next time, which coincidently invariably happens whether you like it or not.

Not a bad effort, i'll pay that bud. Yeah there maybe be a bucket load of silicon & you definitely fall into the "I can't drill for sh^t in a straight line" category, but valiant effort just the same. And as you said, it works.

Yeah I drilled the holes in almost complete dark, on a 15 degree night the water was freezing to the tank and I was numb. My next drilling project will be done in the summer months.
