View Full Version : Upcoming Site Upgrade
Just want to give everyone the heads up, that next week Talkingreef will be taken down for an extended outage as i work on a new upgrade of the site.
THis is going to be a Major overhaul of the site and is going to involve a lot of work. It is likely the site will be down for 24 hours and may be a few days as i work to get the new website code in place and functioning properly.
During this time i will also be doing some server changes as the whole site gets migrated to a new server. Because of technical reason this change alone may cause an outage to you of 24-72 hours as the new addresses update on the internet.
I will likely be starting this weekend, but might not be till early next week.
WIll post updates here as i get the final details in place.

hrmm I guess I can still use RSF and MASM as my creative (read BS...) outlets.
Good luck on the migration Rob! if everything blows up lemme know we might be able to give you a touch of help or a space to host in a pinch.
thanks i will prolly need it.. lol
im trying to do a lot of changes at once.. and as any of us in IT know that always spells disaster.
But i will start with full backups so we should be ok .. worse case were down a bit longer than i expect.

Thanks Rob. Let me know if I can help in any way.
Thanks bud, even though you don't come out & play with your friends as much as you used too, we still appreciate all that you do for us.

Oh Jeeeeze, I hate this techno crapolla. So many glitches are lurking in cyber space. Hope all goes well Rob. I’d offer my help but those that know me best would say, “NO, not Amp. He’s not GROUNDED!!!” As in ZAP! :rotfl:  :showoff: :wow:

LOL!!
Amp, we love you anyways!! Even if your not an uber geek.
Rob, really... tackle down and take your time if you do get stuck PM me on any of the other sites or shoot me an email (my account email is fine) and we can get you squared away. One of the benefits to owning your own datacenter is you can pretty much throw sites up (how do you think I set up copepodgeek). If your on a Cpanel setup it's even easier (we run the platform all over the place). Just hit me up if it goes bad.
V.....
Just figured I'd gloat but for christmas I not only got LED magnets... but the livescribe pen.... nyaaa nyaaa

Joe, let me know what you think of the Livescribe pen. I am considering it for my hubby's birthday in January.
JRC, my handwriting is more sh^tty than my spelling, so im happy for ya, but you can keep your futuristic pen:p
do tell on the mag leds though

aint it sweet how quickly we can hijack a thread.....
In any case, I have horrible handwriting too but the pen can attach recordings to your writings (very handy). Thus far Carmie, if he takes a lot of notes it's a great gift!! I'm actually using it right now to post my notes on the Nassarius I'm working with on my blog. It's even got a piano built in....
jacking is what i do best:o. ay, keep your mind out of the gutter would you..lol

Joe, he is back in college so he takes LOTS of notes.

Doesn't look any different, even with seeing 2 of everything:tongue2:

he he, we're waiting in the wings Rob! if you need I can toss up a temp subdomain ala copepodgeek on one of our cpanels over here so you can test in a near live environment
i have no-idea what that means, however i feel strangely aroused JRC:sick:
You seem to have all your ducks in a row bud, a nerd with a nerd business. Tell me, besides counting water fleas & growing funtasia aptasia for kicks, what other vices you got going?

hah
this weekend I installed a new garage door opener....
nah, I tackle all my hobbies with the same great zeal (ADD)... Network engineering was a hobby at one point or another (about 15 years ago) and of course I made the fatal mistake of making it my career. so now I'm forced to find a hobby hobby... like this one! Well okay, I breed plankton, play guitar, make chocolate, and get into competition shooting.
but mostly, it's the plankton
thanks for the offer, main issue is all the data that has to be moved for testing in that scenario would take me a good day or 2 just to upload the 2+ GB of data that make up this site (compressed, not counting shows)
i should be rolling tomorrow, and have been doing a bit of testing of what i can in the mean time

damn mac !! lmao
LOL :rotfl::rotfl: I almost fell out of my chair.
just to update everyone
i have the test site finally in working order, this means in a day or two i shoudl be done with my testing.
based on that the extended outage will likely be later this week maybe this weekend, will update more once the team works through the testing
another update....
Myself and the moderator team continue to work on the new site design and the various associated updates. We are working through some bug and also working on new layouts. This will be a major site update, most everything will look different.
As we go forward, some existing functions may be temporarily (or even permanently removed) depending on if we can get them working or not. in other cases we are trying to add new stuff too.
we only have a small list of issues we are working on, but the objective is to have as many issues resolved before we upgrade this site.
wow Can't wait to see the new site

its gonna be sweet, with a lot of additions in the way of useful tools for members !! i just want to let everyone know that it may take a little getting use to, but it is definately an upgrade for the better.
hey, as long as we dont have three little sea shells for toilet buttons, we're fine;)
Im sooo looking forward to the new "on site" virtual midget wrestling arena. We get to superimpose our own heads on the characters and everything

lol, your a laugh rob. Make sure after this you manage to free some time up so you can mix it up with us. It will be like the summer of ....2006 ..lol
another update...
we are still encountering some bugs with the software that we are not able to resolve.. there is supposed to be an update release coming early next week. Im traveling for work too, leaving tomorrow and will be back mid week..
i will work on checking out the update once it released see if it resolves some of our issues.
i just really want to make sure this swap over happens with out crippling the website...
For right now im aiming for next weekend, assuming the new software works the way we need it too we will try and to the upgrade to his site then.
Thanks all for the patience
